Ok. Coleen and I went to Corpus this weekend to check out a concert.
We both took Friday off in order to have a bit more time and not have to rush down there after work. We got up, got the kiddo off to school and puttered around the house.
Once we got all packed up we dropped my car off at a friend's place for some brake work, and then went to Lenscrafters. I have new glasses on the way. Really excited about them. Haven't had a new pair in YEARS. They're a bit flashier than I would have usually gotten, but I like them. Midnight blue and bright green arms with jet black rectangular face.
We headed down to Corpus and checked into our motel. Not the greatest, but I was really happy about the king size bed. Frickin' nice to be able to stretch out a bit. We've got a queen, but a king is just soooo much better. We got there just in time, and headed over to the concert, which turned out to literally be just over a bridge from where we were staying. Easy parking. Good crowd. Only took about fifteen minutes to get in.
I got drunk for the first time in a couple of years. I didn't even get really drunk at my wedding. So...maybe five or six years since I REALLY got drunk. But with the music, the good crowd, the venue...it couldn't be helped. Probably a part of why I screamed myself hoarse. I have a bit of laryngitis now, that I think is a combo of concert aftermath and a cold.
The first band was Skindred. OMG. I didn't realize they were so f'n GOOD. The front-man is a British guy that has this whole Englishman-Jamaican-American vibe going on. The music was this incredible mix of Ragae and Progressive Metal that simply amazed me. Coleen was dancing to it like you would to good sexy jazz or Ragae, while I was headbanging like mad and belting out growling screams of joy.
Next was Sevendust. I hadn't expected to like them at all. They're radio releases always seem so mild that I was wondering why Disturbed was going to be touring with some whine-rockers. They shocked me by coming out and really turning up the intensity so that I felt like I was at a metal show, and did an OK job of keeping up the momentum that Skindred started. Still though, they were the low man on the totem pole that night. Good, but just kind of meh ok good.
Then came Disturbed, and as usual, made me feel like I was an all powerful demigod. Frickin' Awesome show. The only low part was that during their set someone was throwing ice around, and the crowd got a bit too packed. Coleen got hit in the face pretty hard with a big chunk of ice, and we had to step out of the crowd for her to recover a bit. Still, we went to the back where there was more air, and we were still within about fifty feet of the stage, and had a decent view of the band.
Came home Saturday after going for a walk down by the beach, eating an early lunch. Lunch was good. Don't remember the restaurant, but they were serving hush puppies like Johnny Carino's serves bread. All you can eat, and they had an awesome sauce to dip 'em in. Tried frog legs for the first time that I can remember. I think I MIGHT have had them before, but not sure. Didn't care for them. Just too bland and slimy. And the meat was...squishy would be the best word. Then we went to the outlet mall just south of San Marcos, got a few things, and then headed back down to New Braunfels for dinner at Oma's Haus. I LOVE that place. It's about the only place I know that has Jagerschnitzel made just like I had in Germany. LOVE it. Then, Coleen was feeling kind of sick, and I was tired as hell so we came home.
Sunday, I actually accomplished a few things. Changed out the spark plugs in C's car and cleaned it out from the trip. Picked my car up. Picked my key up from Dagan. (Thanks for watching the dog for us man. Saved our trip.) Then spent the evening with the wife watching movies.
All in all an excellent weekend, except for the getting sick part. Coleen, Jacob, and I are all down with something slightly different. Sucks. But after this weekend, I'm not sweating it.
Hope you all had good weekends as well.
