I can't believe I'm back here on livejournal, only to exclusively write a post about this series I've been obsessed with for the past month, titled business proposal (사내 맞선). this series is an adaptation from a webtoon/manhwa with the same title, and it (sadly) just ended earlier this week :(

from the poster and trailer video, you can tell that ... yes, it's a romantic comedy. yes, it's cheesy and light. yes, it has almost everything I've been avoiding from the past year. (additional tmi: the korean series I watched last year are only the uncanny counter, mouse, squid game, hospital playlist-I was totally not in the mood for romantic comedy for quite some time)
and yet ... I found myself totally fall in love with this series ♥
I haven't watched korean series in months. no particular reasons, it's just that I've been more inclined towards some western series and movies, not to mention there were no korean series that piqued my interest yet.
so ... how the hell did I end up watching (and obsessing over) something with a genre that I haven't touched for years?
well, I've been liking (and casually following) sejeong since her debut so I naturally knew she was going to star as female lead in this new series with ahn hyoseop as male lead. I've only watched ahn hyoseop's work once in 2019, a series titled abyss, and tbh it left a not-so-good impression to me. he was good-looking, sure, but his acting there was so-so and the series probably has one of the most absurd plots ever.
speaking of plot, business proposal plot is actually really light and cliché. at first I thought it would be just another typical "rich guy falls for ordinary girl through contract-based relationship" type of korean drama, hence I nearly skipped it. but, idk, I was really in the mood for something light and funny, and there was no other suitable option at that moment, so I guess that was how I finally ended up giving business proposal a chance.
AND I DON'T REGRET IT. NOT EVEN A BIT.
I know I didn't watch too many korean romantic comedies to begin with, but I'm sure business proposal is one of the best I've ever watched. I really, really enjoyed watching it. I can even re-watch the episodes and my favorite scenes over and over again. I fell really hard for the lead characters. I was totally obsessed with everything about this series. whew, I can't remember the last time a cliché romantic comedy could make me feel this way, lol.
this series is full of well-executed funny scenes and skits, it is really entertaining to watch. there are only 12 episodes instead of 16, so the pace is rather fast and not draggy. even when there are 2 or 3 annoying characters, I guess this series doesn't have main antagonist, which makes it more comfortable to watch. and the most important thing is the amazing chemistry between the casts, especially the 4 main characters. gosh, I love them so much, you can tell they're also comfortable with each other off-camera, especially sejeong and inah.
the only thing that kinda dissatisfied me, however, is probably the rushed and rather anticlimactic ending (no wedding scene, booo!) but happy ending is still happy ending tho, so I guess I can live with that.
should you watch business proposal? HELL YES if you wish to watch a light, funny, unrealistic romantic comedy with beautiful faces and strong chemistry. but I honestly don't think this series is for you if you're looking something more ... meaningful, slice of life kind of drama that makes your chest clenches with emotions. (although business proposal also made my chest clenches with emotions as well lol)
with the amount of giddyness and happiness I felt while watching this series, I can give it a 9/10. it's a subjective score ofc, because objectively I know business proposal isn't the best korean series out there, but hey this whole post and my score is based on my personal opinion and feeling anyway, so yeah, lol.
ps: I'm also obsessed with the soundtrack, especially this one ♥
