Many of my possessions have been broken and/or repaired in the past few days...
My bicycle broke a few nights ago when I was riding it around town. I allowed a broken bicycle to be my embarrassment. I pedaled harder than I ever have in my life, struggling to save face and keep up with my friends. I was suspicious of my over exertion, but I figured that I had gotten out of shape from the month I had spent not riding to and from school. But as it turns out hat little thingy that moves the chain and switches gears, something like the derailer, had bent out of shape. Also one of my tire tubes had blown up which caused the wheel to pop off and rub against the frame adding to the difficulty of the ride. Not to mention the tires were all weather rusty and in need of replacement. $106.17
Last week I tried to turn on my computer and the monitor didn't light up, rather the whole cumputer went "BEEEEP BEEEEP BEEEEP." Three long beeps which is binary code for "you need new RAM." When this happened I panicked because I had a CD in the disk drive that I needed for class. So before taking it to get it repaired, I purchased some tools and broke open the damn machine and tore out the CD. I was unable to put it back together correctly and so I took it to a computer repair place where they could replace the RAM and put it back together for me. $168.96
Some months ago my poor little car died on me, forcing me careless for quite a while. It wasn't any different from before when I didn't have a car either. It was just that I had a car that wasn't working. It was quite a burden. Now its running and ready to go. Sure the gas gage doesn't work, and the automatic windows have slow motors, and the radio sounds like rice krispies, and it smells horribly of gas inside. The fact is that I have a working vehicle now and can get from place to place. Throughout a year of repairs I managed to replace the battery, the starter, the fuel pump, the solenoid, and have the carburetor re-built. I feel like this car taught me a lot of things. Not only how to make some basic and not so basic repairs, but about success and failure, as ridiculous as that sounds. I hate to count my chickens before they hatch and say that repairing my car was a magnificent journey because it might break down tomorrow. But aside from the inconvenience I'd say that I enjoyed repairing it because it’s been so rewarding. $287.18
Grand total: $580.31
$580.31 in repair costs and now I have things that work.
Tell me if this seems like a mastercard commercial.
