This is interesting.
My great-grandfather was born in 1884 somewhere in Sicily. His last residence in Sicily being Agira. Agira was also known as San Filippo d'Argirio after the Catholic saint Philip of Agira. PoA was born in Turkey, or Thrace, and was the first Christian missionary to visit Sicily. He died on May 12th. Turns out Philip of Agira is the patron saint of the U.S. Armed Forces.
My great-grandfather arrived in the U.S.A. on March 19th, 1909 on the Barbarossa, a German ship. Barbarossa was the name of the German invasion of the Soviet Union. The Barbarossa was seized by the U.S. Navy in 1917 and renamed the U.S.S. Mercury and used as a troop transport 'til it was scrapped in 1924. Mercury is the messenger god, representing merchants, travellers, thieves, and tricksters.
My great-grandfather's first name is quite old, deriving from gens Horatia, meaning timekeeper.
A while ago I was corresponding with my colleague Loren Coleman who sent me an analysis of my surname. Unable to find it because I felt it was apt.
