so i went to the movies with matthew last night. we saw the manchurian canidate. let me just start by saying i love johnathan demme. the first time i saw silence of the lambs was about 2 years ago and i couldnt shake it out of my head for about 2 weeks. just a wonderful, wonderful film. unfortuneatly, his carreer has gone downhill since then, but for such a monumental film as silence, its to be expected i guess. didnt think it would go to the extent that it has. philidelphia was real good, but cant think of anything else recently that i have liked since. beloved was incredibly slow i thought, and i dont think the truth about charlie really fit demme's style. anyway back to manchurian canidate. it was ok. i was expecting much, much more to be honest though. denzel washington's performance is right on, but the lack of backstory and the crappy supporting cast talent bogs the movie down. liev shrieber does an excellent job, but he's the only exception. meryl streep tried too hard in my opinion, and came off as overly fake. i know thats her character, but i didnt get any genuine emotion from her. and the fbi agent/grocery store lady is a horrid actress. anyway, the story is pretty cool but they dont really go into detail with what happened in the past during the war when all the brainwashing was happening. all they really tell ya is the people denzel had seen were working for manchurian global but wtf was the deal with the painted people and how did they brainwash them in the first place? i know they had the implants but how did they get them onto that island initially? anyway i was really interested in the backstory and it didnt pay off. it was an average movie, but i give it an extra point just cause its demme and denzels performance is great. 6 outta 10.
in other news, my move in date got pushed back about a week cause were all lazy. should all work out in the end. have an interview for my wage/position monday and finish apartment stuff later in the day. life is boring besides that. see ya
