[ Background/History ]
Gailardia Galan, heir of House Gardios, was born on the Isle of Hod. His childhood was a happy one, living with his parents and older sister, Marybelle, as well as his best friend and personal guard, Vandesdelca Musto Fende. Vandesdelca's father was one of the Knights of the Gardios family, and, along with Peergynt Sadan Naimach, Gailardia's sword instructor and a retainer of the Gardios family, were known as the "Sword and Shield" of House Gardios. Because of how protected he was, Gailardia tended to be a bit more on the scared side of things, which often caused his sister to scold him. However, this happiness was to be short-lived, as his peaceful world was shattered on his sixth birthday. As his family gathered around to hear his Score reading, Duke Fabre's forces attacked, which led to the destruction of all of Hod. To protect him, Marybelle and her maids defended him, shielding him with their own bodies. Gailardia later woke up on a boat, having been rescued by Peergynt. However, he had no memories of anything that happened past the Scorer beginning to recite his birthday Score.
Peergynt took the boy to Grand Chokmah, and presented him to then-Emperor Amandier the Eighth. Because Gailardia was the child of one of his nobles, Amandier was required to provide care for him. As such, he sent him to Keterberg, to stay with his son, Peony. While there, Gailardia and Peergynt took on the pseudonyms of Guy Cecil and Pere, and the story told was that he was "Franz's" cousin, come to stay, along with his non-shared grandfather, although Peony treated Guy as a younger brother.
Guy was a reserved boy, having taken the deaths of his family hard, and often woke Peony and Pere with nightmares, although they calmed down after a while. However, though he was quiet, he saw and heard quite a bit that they didn't think he noticed. They also discovered that, for no apparent reason, that Guy feared women. They tried working with him on it, but since Guy didn't know the reason, there was nothing that could be done.
They lived in Keterberg for a few years, until word was received that Peony's brothers had been killed. Peony returned to the Capital, and 8-year-old Guy went with him. Pere sat in the House of Lords as Regent to the House of Gardios, and Peony installed Guy as his personal Page. In doing so, the boy could serve as an extra set of eyes and ears for Peony, and to enter places, such as the Council chambers, that he normally would not be allowed into.
After six years in Grand Chokmah, two major events happened. The first was that they received word that, by the Score, Peony's girlfriend close friend Nephry would be wed that year. The second was the death of Peony's father, which would force Peony to become Emperor.
As Emperor, Peony became busier than ever, but he made sure that Gailardia received training in his responsibilities as a noble, on top of continuing to serve as Peony's page, as well as allowing "Guy" to take classes at the military academy. It was there, at the military academy, that Guy really got to see the inner workings of machines, and developed his love for them. Peony, as well as Jade, who was often saddled tasked with training the boy, encouraged him in this, as he showed quite the aptitude for it.
When Gailardia turned 20, he came of age, and he was granted everything he was owed by his position and rank. He officially became Count Gardios, and was given his father's seat in the House of Lords and the Council, and was provided with a manor in the noble quarter of Grand Chokmah. However, he was just as much a prisoner in Grand Chokmah as Peony had been in Keterberg. Among those in the House of Lords and the Council, there were those who felt that, traditional seat or not, the heir of a destroyed land had no business having a title or council seat. At the same time, there were others, specifically those with eligible daughters, who tried to curry his favor, hoping to gain an allegiance with House Gardios, as it was obviously in favor with the Emperor.
Furthermore, as the last member of his family, the House of Lords insisted that he remain "safe" within Grand Chokmah. Not that that stopped him, as Peony often sent his newly appointed "Chief Warrant Officer Guy Cecil" to Engeve or St. Binah on short trips to check things out, or even Kaitzur or Chesedonia on occasion. And, of course, he kept up on the task that Peony set him, which was keeping an eye on the other nobles.
[ Personality ]
As a child, Gailardia was bright, happy, and innocent. He was polite, if a bit of a scaredy cat, and he could hold himself as any child of nobility could. However, when he turned 6, that idyllic life was torn away from him. After that, “Guy” was much more reserved and quiet, although he made up it by increasing his observing of his surroundings.
Along with being observant, he’s also very intelligent, and pays great attention to detail. This not only helps when he’s called upon to spy for Peony (or to provide explanations by Jade), but when he’s working on his precious fon machines as well, especially when he’s taken something apart and has to put it back together. It’s not to say, however, that he has an eidetic memory. Something might ping a memory, but it could take him a while to realize why he recognizes it, or where he remembers it from.
Unchanged from his childhood, Guy remains very loyal and honest, both of which have a habit of getting him in trouble. Even if he gets upset or angry, he’s still willing to give people the benefit of the doubt, up until the point where they prove to him that his loyalty is unfounded. Along with that loyalty, Guy will trust people to the point of being near-oblivious to the things that they hide from him. His honesty can also cause problems for him, although usually it’s of the more humorous variety (Jade and Peony often instigate these situations). He’ll often say things without thinking of the consequences, though this also shows to others that they can trust him.
Growing up with Peony, Guy learned a lot of patience, especially when he was put on “guard duty” while Peony was off visiting Nephry. Also from Peony, he learned to have a way with words, especially when speaking with women. This, of course, causes trouble, because he’s so honest that he doesn’t even realize he’s sweet-talking them until someone points it out. Of course, with his gynophobia, he’s often accused of being a “woman-hater,” but he fervently denies it. Granted, this usually leads (via Jade or Peony’s teasing) to the other extreme of accusations of being a womanizer. Really, Guy’s somewhere in the middle. He’s a hormonal guy, he still enjoys looking at beautiful women, but, alas his gynophobia keeps anything from happening.
After Peony and Guy returned to the Capital and Peony installed him as his personal page, Guy had no choice but to learn humility and humbleness, as pages were meant to serve the needs of their masters, but neither to be seen or heard. He developed a long patience, both as a page and simply dealing with the other members of nobility as a child and an adult. He also, as unwed daughters of nobility began to be pushed on him more and more, started acting quite the epitome of chivalry, though he trembles every time he has to dance with them.
Guy tends to be laid back and upbeat, but he still gets angry and upset, the same as anyone else, although he tries not to show it in person. Certain things, however, set him off more than others, such as his sister, or Hod. Guy’s got a pretty good sense of humor as well, poking fun and teasing his friends, but it’s usually in good humor, not to hurt, and it would be rare to catch him making a joke at another’s expense.
When he does get angry, however, he holds onto it. He doesn't often act out without provocation, but he will get cold and distant, snapping at someone or being flat-out rude. Rarely will he attack out of anger, unless pushed, as he prefers to remove himself from the situation before he does something he'll regret (or get into trouble from Peony over).
His biggest weakness, through everything he’s been through, is that he has an apparent inability to let things go and move on. Though he doesn’t know the cause of his gynophobia, the fact that something that happened 16 years earlier is still with him, causing him such trouble, helps to show this. Those 16 years have also not calmed him down from his desire for revenge against Duke Fabre, and he’s not above the pettiness of being rude to the Duke’s son because he doesn’t like his father.
