[Jim sidles over to the threshold of his kitchen, glancing at his broken plates a little morosely, before looking back towards Edward.]

Sorry. I considered filtering that away from you, but that might have struck you as a little controlling if you'd found out about it later.

[Pause.]

Are you all right?

[Jim eased into the kitchen, and reached out to take one of Edward's hands.]

They're not imbeciles. They're just... children. Angry children with agendas, complaining about anything that springs into their minds.

[He tries to ease Edward's arm down slightly, because god damn it he's going to have to replace all those dishes you're breaking >C]

Snape and Mozenrath are just trying to shift attention off themselves and onto you because they know that you were right. I wouldn't expect any of the other Wardens to act on it.

I know. [He tugs gently on Edward's arm, trying to lead him out of the kitchen.] Edward, I know you're not going to like hearing this, but I think you should consider letting this matter drop.

[Jim lifts his hand, trying to staunch any automatic reply.]

Not if they continue trying to attack you over this, of course, but if they fall silent, or if it becomes obvious that none of the other wardens are interested in their arguments? Then you shouldn't pursue something this potentially volatile.

[Jim frowned, and stepped around Edward to slip an arm around his waist, supporting his wounded foot while edging towards the main room.]

Self preservation should stop you from continuing to try and publicize their defeat. As long as they leave you alone, then there's nothing to be gained from going after them, and you really don't need to give them anymore ammunition to use against you.

[He's quiet for a minute, trying to steer Edward towards the sofa, so he can see to his foot.]

This is exactly like you. You get wrapped up in things, act without thinking, and end up getting badly hurt because of it. [He is still remembering all those Arthas torture sessions, Eddie.]

[Jim moves to sit in front of Edward, taking his foot in one hand and working to pick the glass out of Edward's sole.]

I've noticed. How about from now on when inspiration strikes, you stop to write down all the potential consequences of whatever you're about to do, then see if the urge is still as strong once you've finished?

[He stands to go grab a cloth and a bowl of water from the kitchen, before returning and taking Edward's foot in his hands again.]

What difference will it actually make, Edward? Snape will say that he just missed something vital that you caught on too and he didn't, and Mozenrath will get a few days in Zero, because Snape still won't want to punish him for it.

[Enjoy the feeling of flannel dabbing at your foot, Eddie, you're not ticklish are you? Dab, dab, dab.]

[Jim actually stopped to stare at Edward in disbelief for a moment.]

Edward, they would crucify you! You think they're making a big fuss about you trying to break into Mozenrath's room over this? If you drug one of them, then no one will even care what it is you managed to get them to say to you, they'll fixate on you drugging people and point to what you did to Arthas, an to this and you'll end up paying for it.

[He frowned, and pressed the flannel against the largest of the wounds, staunching the blood.]

Then why would you even consider it?

[Jim's voice was tense, but he wiped the last of the blood from the wound, and stood up to nip into the bathroom to grab a first aid kit. After a few moments he returned, and knelt down again, to wrap a dressing around the injury.]

The Doctor's mentioned that he intends to look for the origins of the potion. He hasn't said as much out loud, but he thinks that Mozenrath is responsible for it.

[He paused, smoothing his thumbs along the arch of Edward's foot, securing the bandage there. He was quiet as he did this, considering how best to raise his next point.]

...Edward, you came for me. You got me to the infirmary, and you stayed with me. You're here with me now, being angry because no one else is paying due attention to the fact that I got hurt. I don't want you to get into any more trouble than you're already in, because of something that I started.

[Jim finally finished with Edward's foot, and shifted onto the couch beside him.]

I know. I know it's unfair, and I know you were right. But people are ignorant and suspicious and naive at the best of times. Here, that also comes with a predilection to complain about anything that they find even mildly irritating.

[He slid an arm around to the back of Edward's head, and stroked his fingers through the other man's hair.]

Try to relax. Going over and over this in your head won't make you feel any better.
