So I suck. A lot. Letting myself be away from the internet longer than I should have been.
The comics festival was good, by the way. Made some money, spent some money, didn't win Comics Weakest Link because I didn't know Alan Moore wrote "Maurice the Magical Cat" in some obscure British publication early last century...
Enough of that. Start fresh; again.
I've still been unable to get full-time employment, other than a couple of weeks as an office temp at the printworks where I've spent my student-summers working on the factory floor. I also managed to make a few pounds on eBay, plus picked up things in New York to sell to previous eBay customers when I got back. Look for "andymort"'s auctions, for all your G.I.Joe needs...
So the main thing that's been occupying my time lately is preparation for the Mountbatten Internship Programme -- I passed a stressful interview in London to get onto the Programme, then passed a stressful 'phone interview to be offered a placement.
This means that I'll be in New York by September 13, for a week's "orientation" before starting work the following Monday at the offices of Buchbinder & Warren, a reputable real-estate firm based in Union Square, Manhattan. I'll be there for a whole year, living in the Newport apartment complex in New Jersey (hssss) with other Mountbatten interns, working toward a Certificate in International Business (accredited by Cambridge) and trying to make connections that will lead to an actual job in the US...!
I have an interview at the US Embassy in London this Friday and will book my flight as soon as I can once I've got my passport back. In the meantime I need to tidy my awful room and sort out what I'm going to need -- my cases have been packed to capacity when I've just gone over to visit for a few weeks!
Hopefully I'll be updating more from now on, and will be accessible to anyone who wants to get in touch (which I know I can be absolute shite with). One of the requirements of the internship is to keep a journal, so I should start now and make it a habit because I'll have enough to (re)adjust to when I get over there.
I'm pretty nervous, and very excited. Especially because I'll get to see Edie without knowing that one of us has to leave just when we get comfortable!
