Years ago, before we met, my SO used to go skiing, and a couple of months ago on our way there, he was telling us how much of the land around the slopes used to be (but is no longer) covered in snow.
It's now early spring - heck, it's the end of the first month - and already the temperatures are up to 31C, and with the strong winds today, there were bushfires in parts of Sydney.
Bushfires in early September. Shrinking of the winter snow area. Aren't we getting this yet? It doesn't take a genius to see it. We are, to put it bluntly, totally fucking up the earth. When are we going to stop? To plant trees to soak up the carbon instead of cutting them down. To find a viable and earth-friendly alternative to fossil fuels? When are we all going to take personal responsibility for the state of the earth?
I like having clean air to breathe. I like clean drinking water, and enough food to eat. I want my children to live in a world that can sustain them.
