In just over 36 hours, I start my new job. I'm so run off my feet with packing, cleaning, organising childcare and swotting that I haven't had time to be too anxious about my first day.

I must admit, this conversation hasn't gotten old yet.

Me: I'm starting a new job.

Them: Really? What are you going to be doing?

Me: I'm going to be an R & D mathematician.

Them: oh wow, golly gosh you must be smart.

Career kudos has been a long time coming. Yeah, I know, it's a small thing, but if it boosts my spirits and my confidence, I don't actually care.

It amuses me that people immediately equate ability at mathematics with some sort of higher intelligence than say, literary ability or artistic flair, but well, I don't mind getting the warm fuzzies from it.

Vive les mathématiques!

:), moving, too damn cool, job
