I got bit by a plant. o_O Yup. A plant bit me. And then there were like these little misshapen bumps. And it was sorta freaky. Especially since they didn't itch or anything, they were just....there. EEEK.
Gone now, of course. The interesting story is how I managed to get bitten by a plant.
So. Eileen and I haven't seen each other for a while, right? I've been on vacation and all. So she calls on saturday, but I couldn't come over (more on that later), and so I went over yesterday instead. We talked for like two hours, made some foccacia, and somehow retention ponds came up in the conversation. She said that the retention pond across the street (busy street, by the way) was HER pond, and no one else's (which may sound weird out of context...but never mind). So I was like, "Let's go and visit it!"
See, here's where the fun begins.
We crossed the busy street, taking our lives in our hands, and walked around the giant hill that surrounds the pond. Behind it is this giant field of tall grasses, sparse like a prairie. We were both in flipflops, but it didn't seem to matter at the time. Once we got in the field behind the pond, we couldn't see any of the surrounding roads anymore. It was fantastic. Wide open spaces, near-silence from the roads, and a wonderful breeze in the sun. So we climbed the hill, saw the pond, (which was more like a marsh) and decided we would walk to my house. Now, my house is a good 5-10 minute drive. And there aren't any neighborhoods to take shortcuts through. But we were feeling kinda crazy, so we decided we would.
One more thing: one of our huge goals was to climb a tree. I've done it before, but she had never, and she said she had always wanted to try. So that's been on our list of goals for like, ever. (Another one of our goals is to find someone to teach us how to pick locks.) And then we found a deer path that led right to the perfect climbing tree, and we sat up there for like 15 minutes. It was absolutely amazing.
See? We were so proud. Then you see that river behind her?
Yup. We crossed it. Waded right through it--and I was wearing jeans. It was the funniest thing. To get out we had to climb a fallen tree, and to get there we had to step in seriously gross mud. She didn't appear to care. I cared very very much. I think I kinda freaked out on her.
Then she freaked out when she saw the crayfish in the creek we crossed 20 minutes later. Haha.
So we walked for a while. It took us about an hour and a half, all told. But we climbed that hill and stayed in the tree for a while, and we took our time. I'm pretty sure I could make it in half an hour if I tried. But going it alone? Haha. No way. In hell.
Oh, and we got bitten by a plant on our way out of the river. We're going to bring her machete next time. =D
Anyway. It was the best thing I'd ever done. I came home all muddy with my jeans wet up to my thighs, and my dad and my brother didn't notice. Dad was distracted. Harry probably didn't care.
So yeah. That was my adventure.
Ohyeah, and I took a plane by myself for the first time on saturday. ^^ It was so cool. SO cool. Only thing was, no one sat next to me. :( The plane was like, FULL, and pretty much the only empty seat on the plane was the one right next to me. It was depressing. Like, really? Seriously?
Anyway.
Staying the week at my friend's house in Pennsylvania was so much fun. We just did everything and nothing all week, it was the best. And we got so comfortable by the end. But I was SO GLAD TO BE HOME. Good God. Except, when I got home, the house was a mess. Dad and Harry had been living without mom and Ben for a few days, so everything was a pigsty, dirty dishes consumed the counters, something smelled in the sink (which we discovered was a piece of meat someone had scraped into the non-garbage-disposal part of it), and the laundry hadn't been done in days.
-sigh-
Which was why I couldn't go over Eileen's house that day. But she and Evie and Marcy are coming over tonight, so it's all good. I'm debating whether or not I should go out for food...
Oh. I don't have a car.
...Damn. >.>
