I be needing discussion from some of you crazy HP geeks:
I know you probably haven't thought as hard about this as I have (considering he's a major character in my new/old/resumed fic and couldn't even be called a minor character in JKR's canon) but what are your thoughts on Professor Vector? I suppose it could be anyones guess, seeing that we're only told that he teaches Arithmancy and his first name is Septima. From Arithmancy I gather he'd be quite intellectual; but I'm in the middle of writing a chapter where Vector and Sinistra show a lot of themselves by the way they communicate with one another, and I want to have some good character development happening there.
Sinistra's alright as we're given more to go with for her. She's a Slytherin, her name has extraordinary symbolic meaning* and she likes to set hard essays (thanks, Harry & Ron ;P). I have a basic set out of how to write Vector (if only something that corresponds with Sinistra's personality) but I'm still working at it. What House would he have been in? There are so many things to consider, and seeing that I am a big fan of trying to stick to canon as best I can I don't want to have him as this OOH LA LA flamboyant and terribly written sub-par character (not that Sinistra would allow that).
So anyway, love to hear what your impressions of Vector are. If you have any at all. I realise he's no Harry Potter with the future of the Wizarding World hanging on his shoulders, but you know. Impressions are impressions.
* another thing I realised about Sinistra's name today - Aurora (which is her canon first name) means "dawn" or "new life" and Sinistra means "Serpent Handler" or "Head of the Serpent/Head of Serpens"...
Aurora Sinistra = "New life of the Head of the Serpent"?
Interesting, no?
