I never realized how much having a Braille note would change my life. From the moment I took it out of its box I have been reading books from bookshare and web Braille and proofreading my own writings, and I feel like I have Braille back in my life! I am a Braille girl down to the core. Some time last week I contacted my churches secretary. She emailed me the Sunday Bulletin, scanned the hymns and I looked up the bible verses. I took the BN with me to church on Sunday and for the first time in my life I could follow along with the congregation. I could sing along and read the responses and it was just awesome! There is a huge percentage of people who are blind that are unchurched. I wonder if they had the technology and the ability to participate if they would be so isolated? It bothers me that this technology is so expensive and that a rehab counselor wouldn't consider participating in church as a need for such extravagance, but I know how much the BN has given to me. I had a job interview the other day, and just having my notes in Braille helped so much.
