The Book Thief by Markus Zusak

My review

rating: 5 of 5 stars
I just finished reading this book, and I literally hugged it when I was done. It is my new very favorite book - the one I would take with me if I was bound for a desert island.

It is set in Germany during World War II, but forget every expectation that comes along with that...ok, almost every one. There is some Jew-hiding involved, quite a bit of death (in fact, the book's narrator is Death), but mostly it's about life, family, love, and words. Yes, there are some very sad parts, but somehow even the sad parts (most of them, anyway) seem somehow beautiful. I will take this book back to the library, and someday very soon, I will buy it so that I can read it again and again.
