Job interview yesterday went pretty well. I'm being considered for an infant room teacher, and I really really want it! The center is absolutely fantastic, they are non profit but they have amazing resources, benefits like I've never seen offered to daycare workers (BJ's membership included!), and the way the program is structured is fantastic.
If I get the job, I'll be paired with another coworker, who will be my partner. This means that you design curriculum as a team, run the class as a team, and also move with the children as a team. All the kids in the daycare are placed into age groups, and when they move classrooms, the teachers get to go with them! So if I am hired for the infant room, and I will stay with my kids until they turn 3, at which point I will rotate back to the infant room with a new group of kids and start again. This means that the kids will have a huge benefit in terms of learning, as studies show that when children change classrooms they experience learning setbacks, as they are concentrating instead on forming new trusting relationships with their teacher or caretaker. The fact that the daycare modifies their program to support childhood development really makes me want to work there. They also have the program set up so that kids are in groups of 10 or less, which means you can really devote time and attention to the kids in your care. So yeah, I'm pretty super psyched. I will need to have an interview with the program director (who was out of town for a conference) next week, but hopefully that will go well and I'll get the job.
Still heading up to the mall for an interview at Lane Bryant in case this doesn't pan out, but I'm really hoping this works out :)
