So I was surprised to find that all my hard work with Lexus is starting to pay off. For a while now I've been working on teaching her to stay with me when I am moving through out the house (unless I say otherwise) because if I don't keep an eye on her she occasionally gets into things. Only about 10% of the time - the other 90% she just lays around and does nothing at all - but that 10% matters because when she gets into stuff it is usually something like eating out of the cat box or snatching things off of the coffee table in the living room. -facedesk-
Anyway, I got up last night to get a glass of water. Generally she just stays asleep and I leave her where she is and come back but she must have been awake because as soon as I rolled out of bed she got up and followed me to the door. Since I was just getting some water I told her to stay. I expected her to get back in bed or to hover at the door or just out of my vision. I went down the hall, to the kitchen, got my water and came back to find her standing EXACTLY where I'd left her. I mean, she literally hadn't moved an inch. Her feet were in the exact same place, she hadn't even sat down. She just stood there, waiting for me to get back. If I didn't know better I would say that she held her breath the whole time too.
I know it is silly, but it makes me unreasonably happy. Before when I've asked her to stay and gone out of sight it has always been in practice or I'm always where she can still see me and me watching her keeps her in line. This is probably the first time I've given her a stay command in an actual real life situation and then just walked away and left her there. @.@; I think the thing that gets me the most is that I wasn't even really expecting that she would do it.
