homeless people are crazy. over the past few years i have studied bits and pieces of the homeless as a section of society. i've read the pity party literature and the disgrace to society pieces. i worked for the coalition and i've been downtown. they sing, they scream, they try to wash your windows and then curse you out when you tell them you don't have cash, and most of them hold signs. i'd like to think of those latter mentioned as "signos".
now, i know the homeless sector are actually human beings. they are us, we are them. maybe one day, someone we love will be homeless...maybe even you or i could one day become homeless. but i can't deny my current state of mind right now. to quote today's homeless sign of the day, "WHY lie? I NEED A BEER!!"
in current shirlee news, i am disgusted. to my mind, homelessness has become this big, ridiculous joke. most of these people who are on the streets are there because they were either on drugs/alcohol, they're insane and need professional help, fiscally speaking: they suck, or they're lazy. now i know there are those few cases where they lost their job due to robots, or their house blew away, and in those cases there are still WELFARE and homeless centers...franklin delano roosevelt didn't just start all that new deal crap for fun (Speaking of...why do we say he's one of the top 3 presidents when he 9066'ed every american italian, german, and japanese? answer me that one...}
If i could contact all the homeless in fl, I would say this:
Listen, it's ok to beg, just don't do it in the middle of a crazy intersection. also, if you choose to "work" with your sign at night, wear reflectors or stand in a well lit area. Also, TRY a homeless center. I know you're comfortable where you are, and your job is easy, but seriously- you could do so much more. And if you just hate society, find a new one. go to cuba- they're communist.
