I spent all of today at home, doing my Chemistry work and alternately watching Buffy and Doctor Who. Me? Sad? I had the worst stomach cramps or something last night, went to bed at eight, and woke up this morning feeling like I'd been pummeled in the stomach numerous times - so I stayed home. Probably not a good idea, but at least I had time to write a meta for House!
Random, and I mentioned this on
capslock_house somewhere, but I think it bears repeating here - That Scene in '97 Seconds', the one that the HausVilson fangirls are wetting their panties over and putting capitals on because it was that important? I'm sorry, I thought that was a crock of bullshit. Either it was me being insanely thick, or cynical - or maybe I'm right in saying that House saying "I love you" to Wilson seemed utterly out of left field. So much so that I couldn't tell (even after a second viewing) whether House was being serious or taking the piss. Maybe it had something to do with the fact that Wilson had said "okay I'll be even more of an enabler and your bitch and hop your morphine up okay?" but I don't know, it just didn't get to me at all, and I really do enjoy the dynamics of their relationship. Shit writing, folks!
Okay, cranky-pants off, let's get into it. 'Guardian Angel' screened in Australia exactly nine hours after it aired in the U.S - oh the wonders of the technological age!
Very average episode. Wasn't bad - but wasn't brilliant, shits-and-giggles good times, either. Whatever.
Look, I know people think that Thirteen's boring because she's basically a clone of Cameron - but personally, I didn't see the similarities until others in fandom lamented it. My impression of Cameron during the first season was that she was intentionally keeping her past under wraps because she was scared of the emotional repercussions, like having a Band-Aid ripped off old wounds, you know what I mean? Thirteen, to me, gives me the feeling she's just hiding herself because she just doesn't want the others knowing who she is - I know a girl like that, actually. I mean, sure, I wanted to punch her in the face, but Thirteen's cool (and hot, oh god)!
Also, I think Thirteen is a lot more assertive than Cameron was when she was first introduced. Cameron seemed a lot more fragile (case in point: 'Fidelity' and 'Maternity') and sweet (remember how she wished House happy birthday? Gave him a Christmas present?), a lot less self-assured and kickarse than Thirteen. To me, anyway, and I hope she stays.
Hrm. Mormon Guy appears to be a single dad. That might be interesting to explore if he stays, too?
It's nice to see Cuddy with that "bitches-ain't-shit" attitude again! Her line about HR and whatnot when Cutthroat Bitch approached her was classic. And "that's your defence, we only dismembered him?" was great, too. Speaking of which - I'm sorry, I know it's mean, and completely unjustified - but I laughed when 4Man got knocked back by Cuddy. It's just so typical of Foreman, wanting to be all like Daddy House and tripping over in his big-boy shoes and dress-up pants and getting owned. I feel so bad; I loved Foreman in Season One - he was my favourite character at then, probably something to do with the fact that the first episode I saw was 'Histories', which to date is still one of the best episodes from the series - but I honestly don't know what to think of him any more.
I didn't mind the POTW - probably because she was cute and had a lovely accent (hearing her say "I'm tripping!?" was awesome).
What's up with Chase-the-surgeon? Yes, the show is notorious for the doctors being able to do things they normally wouldn't (since when was a nephrologist like House able to do a brain biopsy?) but come on, going from being an intensivist to surgeon in what, six months? That takes the cake, I reckon. Then again - this is a primetime medical drama, I doubt the majority of the 24 million viewers the show apparently gets in America give a shite. Plus, Chase is hot. Whatever.
"Cafeteria was out of Jello." Lmao.
Ridiculously Old Fraud getting booted was heartbreaking. He was the one candidate I was really taken by - sure, the others are awesome fun and everything, but Scooter? My sister and I were grinning basically every time he was on screen, and I would have loved to see how he and House developed together as a team.
And Cutthroat Bitch? As much as I dislike her on a superficial level - I have never seen anybody as manipulative as her, Jesus the dog collar! - I'm rooting for her to stay because it'd be interesting to watch (if she gets hired) how she integrates with the rest of the team. Whether the others would forgive her for being such a twunt and they ever learn to trust her, and how she would go about her job. You know?
Eh. 'Guardian Angel' gets a B from me.
"Those were the best two weeks of my life."
RIP SCOOTER
(Thankyou Simmy for that screencap!)
Who do you all think is going to make up the final team? We could take bets?
Also, I don't know how many of you are into femslash, but
ijemanja wrote an
excellent Thirteen/Cutthroat Bitch fanfic. Fun and sexy!
ETA: Heh. Apparently my Noir fanfic '
Safe From Harm' came second in the Manifest fanfiction competition? Fuckyeah Seaking!!
