Think about modern day Jerusalem, and the Western Wall. Many Islam, Christan and Jewish people gather here and co-exist peacefully. To shop, to eat, to socialize. That even seems strange considering the Israel/Palestine conflict that we are all so well versed with. I agree fully with the Islam tradition being used like Christianity was in the middle ages, as a weapon mostly, to control all of their followers in their areas of the world.
I'm just more or less dumbfounded by the fact that most Christians consider Jesus AS Christianity... (better explained as more than just the figurehead, the whole faith IS Jesus) instead of Jesus as a part of Christianity. And we don't even have a clear idea of what the story is around his birth. With Buddhism, while we may not know the exact year Siddhartha was born in, we have a great idea, and there is only ONE story (called the Lotus Sutra) that tells us of Siddhartha's life from the begining to the end.
Even further, why did King James leave some books from the bible? What is in those books? Why is information on the faith with the most constituents, being hidden from us?
Oh and Alex, did you know that the notion of an afterlife was never a part of original Christian, Jewish or Islamic ideals. The notion of the afterlife came from the Zoroastrian faith of the Eastern world. Once taken in, all three faiths added it to their agenda.
