Long Love Letter
He's an affable high school teacher. She's an ex-teacher working as a florist. Together, they are TRANSPORTED TO A POST-APOCALYPTIC DESERT.
SURPRISE SCIFI. I started this drama with no idea what I was getting into, and the first episode is deceptively normal -- there's a high school, some kids are angsting about their girlfriends, our OTP meets and parts and meets again.
Then their school gets thrown into the future.
THROWN INTO THE FUTURE.
And the future is a dry wasteland with earthquakes and sand ninjas and giant killer spider creatures and no food, water, or supplies.
And they have about twenty panicky students to take care of.
And someone's hiding a gun.
Attention: the future sucks, because all you lazy cheeto-grubbing slobs ruined the planet by pissing on glaciers and guzzling natural resources with your SUVs. Recycle, damnit!
This is Asami, a kind of John Keating knockoff who encourages his students to express themselves and carpe the diem. (Don't lie -- you wanna be sexually harassed by Kubozuka Yosuke too.)
Misaki is an ex-teacher rocking her fall from grace as the infamous "MASH," fired for putting a dent in the wall when a student got mouthy. (She didn't actually, but everyone believes she did, so she smiles sweetly at students who alternately back away in fear or beg for her autograph.)
MASH.
In the future, high school is literally about survival -- there's no electricity, no plantlife, and you're on the bottom of the food chain when it comes to giant spider telepaths.
NO, SERIOUSLY.
Despite things like earthquakes, toxic clouds, and killer mercenaries, the students still manage the most unsympathetic whining ever. "Wah, I miss my girlfriend." "Wah, I can't wash my hair." "Wah, the math teacher tried to set Yamapi on fire... "
NO, SERIOUSLY.
Did I mention the holograms? And the disembodied hands appearing mid-air to strangle your enemies? And the giant killer spiders?
The boys like to angst with group nudity. Excellent costume budgeting, Japan!
ASAMI/MISAKI OTP. They're very much the grownups (pretty much the only sane adults in the future) but their romance is goofy and sweet and ADORABLE. They bump hands and sneak looks across the classroom and go on dates when the students are sleeping! ♥ ♥ ♥
THEY HAVE THE CUTEST MOST PERFECT LOVE CONFESSION. Asami very politely asks "Excuse me, would it okay to hold you in my arms?" and Misaki is like, "Douzo." CUUUUUTE.
There's also a fun multishipping moment when Asami gets injured, and he has to be held down, moaning and sweating, while everyone puts their hands all over him. Woo!!
Tender bedside love. *___* Touching her lips and asking her not to leave his side. *__*
Basically, if you have a high tolerance for crack (homemade time machines), you'll be paid off in OTP goodness and Yamapi's nubile young body and soft touchable lips. Also, rain scene!
