BOSS: She'll chew you up and spit you out and you'll only wish you lasted as long as Spearmint.

BOSS

She's a profiler getting back in the game. They're newly transferred misfits from other departments. Together, dorky team misadventures and an unlikely family!

BOSS was such a good drama I was actually a little depressed when I finished and realized there was no more. I wish I had a magic button that would extend the shows I love (and nuke the ones I don't, but we'll talk about Code Blue later).

For your pleasure, BOSS contains:

*Strong women
*Hot men for the ogling
*Guns, murder, policework, explosions
*Plot twists
*Continuity
*SHENANIGANS
*Actual character development and depth
*Quirky underdogs coming together as a team

And that's just the tip of the high-heeled iceberg.

Osawa Eriko is a smart, savvy, take-no-prisoners ladyboss, the height of awesome, the definition of cool.

Her team... is not.

Hanagata (or, as he introduces himself, "HANAGATA!!! \o/") is a too-excited rookie with questionable fashion sense.

Yamamura is a pitiful middle-aged loser. (You know how the Trix rabbit never ever gets the cereal? That's Yamamura's entire life.)

Kimoto is a sullen tech genius who hates expending any kind of effort. ...Even at consciousness.

Iwai is a big flirt who also happens to be flamingly gay and eager to sexually harrass all the hot men in his vicinity. (A MAN AFTER MY OWN HEART.)

Even Katagiri, the serious, stoic professional of the team, makes no secret of his disdain for... uh... everyone. But that's okay! Because he is played by TAMAYAMA TETSUJI.

YES HE GETS HIS OWN PISCPAM. He's the hot angsty one with a SECRET PAST. In fine Asian tradition, they fetishize his pain mercilessly.

"What secrets is he hiding? Why is he crying alone in a dark corner? Let's zoom in close on his tough tears and manly torment. Yessss, zoom in... close..."

This is a character who speaks the truth at all times.

Tough love, folks. With such a pitiful, paltry team, it's up to the boss to channel Mulan and make a man out of them.

Her long-time BFF thinks it's hilarious, but then, he thinks most things are.

If Osawa is the height of cool, then Nodate is the smooth caramel filling of sexiness. YOUR BODY WILL NOT BE READY. You'll get Pavlovian about it. "Oh hey, there's Nodate with his deep gravelly voice andgorgeousbrowneyesandnicelyfittingsuitsunnnnnnnnnnfffffffffff."

Of course, Osawa wears the pants. Osawa always wears the pants.

YES. SHE IS EVEN MORE AWESOME THAN SHE LOOKS. She's sharp and funny and fabulous and she has this flippant way of tossing oneliners over her shoulder as she leaves you in the dust for more interesting things. You want her. You want to be her.

SHE IS EVERYONE'S DADDY.

The best part is that everyone agrees she's the toughest man of them all.

My absolute favorite thing about Boss? ALL THE AWESOME GIRLS. Girl heroes, girl villains, girls who kick ass, girls who worry about their own careers, girls having actual relationships with one another.

You know how in most dramas, the cool tough characters are all men, and the ladies are perky secretaries and coffeemakers and there's always at least one "lively girl" with a "bright spirit" who functions as both cheerleader and a walking example of complete human uselessness?

HA HA HA, NOT IN BOSS.

BOSS does a complete switcheroo: the most interesting roles go to the girls (with the guys as their backup) and the team's "lively girl" is totally a dude.

I like the colored pants especially. They say, "I am a professional to be trusted."

Make a checklist for everything you want in a procedural. Humor? Mischief? CSI? Serial killers? Cop drama? BOSS has it all, and with style.
