MR. BRAIN
He's a zany neuroscientist. They're the semi-useful peanut gallery. Together, they catch criminals! With SCIENCE!
About ten minutes into this drama you'll realize you're watching Kimura Takuya the crime-fighting ex-gigolo. And then you'll realize you like it. And then you can sob in my arms, because ours is a shared pain. WHERE HAVE MY STANDARDS GONE? Did I really watch eight episodes on the strength of one man and his banana fetish?
Yes, yes I did.
Tsukumo is a quirky genius working in police science. He's curious, clever, likes riddles, brings porn to work, skips away from crime scenes, and has no concept of personal shame. Think Bill Nye ("what does this do?") mating with The Mentalist ("HAHA OOPS I just tricked you into revealing your evil plot with nothing but three toothpicks and my charming smile.")
"Don't worry, I'm right behind you."
His assistant, Yuri, is really more like a babysitter.
Not that she minds, 'cause girlfriend's got it bad.
In her defense, it's hard for any mortal to resist the hair. But she's *especially* dazzled, which prompts scene like this one, where she has a wistful voiceover about his beautiful face and godly presence and goes in deep detail about the way he eats a banana.
INSPIRATIONAL HERO MOMENT! With a banana.
Never doubt their raw sex appeal.
Tsukumo gives Yuri a lot of crap, which makes it all the more satisfying when she finally starts dishing it back:
LOVE HER... OR ELSE.
Armed with nothing but floating holograms, armchair psychology and their own gosh-darn quirkiness, Tsukumo and Yuri team up with local detectives to fight crime.
Like bumbling uke Mizushima Hiro, who has THE SAME FACE THE ENTIRE DRAMA:
It's good when actors really challenge themselves, you know. Strive to be the best they can.
There was an insane amount of high-profile or otherwise awesome guest stars, like Koyuki, Aibu Saki, Sato Takeru, GACKT (!!!), Nakama Yukie (as a CRAZED MURDERER on a brutal killing spree... it was awesome.)
I think a lot of criminals were simply dazzled into submission by Kimura's hair.
And great interpersonal skills.
And his steely, unshakable resolve.
But mostly the hair.
