1) Select 5-10 (or so) favorite books.

2) Post the first line from them. (The first line is from the first chapter of the book; introductions, prologues and other preambles have been skipped.)

3) Don't mention the title or author. That's for everyone else to figure out.

4) After someone correctly identifies the book, update the original entry to reflect that fact.

  1. It was morning, and the new sun sparkled gold across the ripples of a gentle sea.
Totally "Jonathan Livingston Seagull" by Richard Bach, as noted by grandhoser.
  2. Austin is a small town of half a million residents.
  3. In moments of great passion, the mind tends to be flooded with a warm vision of the person in our arms.
  4. There was a wall. It did not look important. It was built of uncut rocks roughly mortared.
  5. The box came in the UPS morning delivery at the rear entrance of the Warren E. Burger Federal Building at the corner of Kellogg and Robert, in downtown St. Paul.
  6. April is the cruelest month, breeding
Lilacs out of the dead land, mixing
    Memory and desire, stirring
    Dull roots with spring rain.
  7. Even though she has been portrayed as a suburban soccer mom living in New Jersey, Laili Helms has seen her share of the world's darkest places.
