Ah, the Somerville Market Basket, how I miss your shenanigans.

Bostonist theorizes that Somerville residents who are rumble-inclined have been left high and dry by the closure of the notorious Good Times Emporium to make way for IKEA (there's gentrification, for ya!), and have settled on the Market Basket parking lot as a new venue.  Because the ( Read more... )

Market Basket in Raynham isn't doing so great either:

RAYNHAM -

An elderly man accused of groping a boy in a Raynham supermarket bathroom reportedly failed to show for his arraignment Tuesday.

Market Basket janitor Valerio Rodriguez, 71, of Providence faces a felony indecent assault charge after he allegedly reached under a bathroom stall partition and touched a 4-year-old boy’s calf June 1.

A judge at Taunton District Court issued a default warrant for his arrest and added a “do not release” order to it, said Gregg Miliote, a spokesman for the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office.

“Once he is located and arrested, he cannot be released until he goes before a judge,” Miliote said.

That means a judicial officer, such as a justice of the peace, cannot release him on bail if he is arrested overnight, Miliote said.

As of early Tuesday afternoon, Rodriguez had not been located, Miliote said.

Raynham police had said the boy’s father, Jason R. Beatrice, 31, of Raynham, witnessed the alleged incident from outside the stall.

The enraged father flung open the stall and punched Rodriguez repeatedly, police said.

Beatrice was charged with assault. He is scheduled to be arraigned July 31 at Taunton District Court.

Both men were summonsed the afternoon of the alleged incident, but neither was arrested.

Police said Beatrice later authored and distributed fliers warning of a “predator” at the store, after he reportedly returned to Market Basket July 4 and saw Rodriguez still working there.

A spokesman for Tewksbury-based DeMoulas’ Supermarkets, owner of the Market Basket chain, said Rodriguez had been suspended pending an investigation.
