Might have some spoilers so
I was rather excited about the Deadpool movie, and going to see it was great fun (with one geeky girl friend and one secret-geek super cool fashion friend). And I laughed a lot. But now I can hardly remember anything about it. I think it was missing a crucial element: Deadpool's madness. The other characters in the comics have to deal with Deadpool whose understanding of reality is skewed - he thinks he is in a comic book! In the movie the 4th wall is shattered to shards, but no-one in the movie's reality finds it weird that Deadpool is talking to an unseen audience.
From an emotional viewpoint the conflict in the story was just as forced as in any 13-in-a-dozen early 20th century romances: hero has a loving relationship with the girl just perfect for him. Then things happen and he becomes ugly. He thinks his girl just can't get over it - without asking her - and disappears from her life. Then things happen and he has to rescue her, succeeds, and discovers that his looks are not that important to her - what is most important is his ability to protect his girl and crack jokes. Moral of the story: It's ok to be an ugly male, because looks do not define a man. I just wish the story had had the twist of the girlfriend turning ugly as well, I wonder how that would have ended...
