So I had my phone interview with the B-lo law firm on Tuesday and the HR lady was really matter-of-fact and really monotonic. I didn't think it was going very well (I actually prefer in person interviews) and felt like I was being interrogated, but right after the last question, she said she wanted to schedule a follow up in person. So I tentatively said the 18th, thinking that I was home from the Outer Banks on the 17th, so I could just fly in late Thursday, ask my mom to pick me up after work and spend the weekend with her after the weekend. Come to find out, I'm driving back the 18th. Needless to say, I panic.
I call the HR lady back and ask to move it to the 25th as I'm in the Falls that weekend for sure for Jenna's baby shower. She proceeds to tell me that she's looking to fill the position as soon as possible as she has a secretary "floater" covering the position, etc., etc...My initial thought - why call me in AUGUST then when I submitted my resumé in MAY if you're so desperate to fill the spot? Anyway, I tell her to keep the date on the 18th and I'll figure something out.
[I must note, in between all this, I got the balls to tell Jeremy and he did not take the news well. No surprise there. He is now acting like the conversation never happened.]
After our fight that night, I woke up to my cat chewing my phone cord to pieces and suffered from a bout of insomnia at 4:30 in the morning. I started researching travel options again when I realized...why not have the interview on the 10th and just tell the boss you're going to OBX a day early? Brilliant!
So I rescheduled with HR lady, booked my flight and rental car, and look forward to my second interview. I'm hoping this goes well.
All in all, things seem to be looking up. It's about damn time.
