Happy New Year!

It's 2012 everywhere, so yay first year post!

Let's see, I could make the regular fandom meme for the year, but instead of that because no gaming in that thing, I'm going to do a manual year in review.

I loved Level E. It was great fun. Have you tried checking out Kimi to Boku? It has a lot of the elements that I enjoyed in Natsume and Ouran.

Four episodes, I got bored out of my skull. No idea how the manga is like, but I was never interested. I'm not really a slice of life person, except for few exceptions. I think Ouran is more romantic comedy with some drama, and Natsume has the supernatural that takes the ordinary out of any loose fluffy slice of life scene in between the youkai drama parts. I dunno, what I watched (five pretty boys hanging out and doing absolutely nothing special) doesn't even seem similar to me to Ouran and Natsume.

I'm a big fan of slice of life which is probably the difference. The ensemble feel is what reminded me of Ouran and the overall look of the art, particularly the soft edges, is where it reminded me of Natsume.

Dunno, maybe in the bishounen visual archetypes (twins, megane, foreign spazz) but I still don't see the Ouran so much beyond that. I do get the Natsume-esque art, however. I had checked it out because it looked pretty and soft, not going to lie.

ETA: Actually, now that I think about it, it's more than likely that Ouran was just picking these visual archetypes on purpose. After all, it's a shoujo satire that then became a shoujo for realz. I mean, they're also pretty big in otome games, and they made a lot of references of those through Renge.

The art style is one that I am really fond of.

It is lovely. Too bad the series wasn't my thing.
