Yay--so happy you're still here!

As for the U.S. presidential election....as a U.S. citizen living in one of the regions of the country where Trump is popular enough to put my state in the "toss up" category, it is beyond shitshow. As if the sexism and misogyny wasn't already a huge issue, it's reached levels of disgusting that make me want to crawl in bed and never leave.

It's fascinating in some respects because the rise of Trump has resulted in many a thinkpiece and long form article examining how and why this happened. It's made me really look at the place I grew up and appreciate that, in many ways, how lucky I was to be able to go to college and eventually get a decent paying job. There are whole towns where I live in Ohio that have just been gutted, economically speaking, over my lifetime. Upon examination, it's not surprising someone like Trump, with his sloganeering, would be able to capitalize on that distress. Never mind that he is a sleaze bag who benefitted from the corrupt capitalism he purports to decry--when he's not bragging about he used it to his personal advantage. I know more than one per voting for him not because they think he can really do anything, but because their fed up. That is one of the things that upsets me the most. He could win and all of the ultra conservative

I work at a public radio station and spend much of my day surround by all election all the time. I've had to institute a near total ban on all news at home just to preserve my sanity. Some days, it feels hopeless.
