Listmania!

1. I believe I will be having dinner or at least drinks with Andrew tonight. He's stopping in Oxford on his way back to London from Wales, so Caitlin and I are going to try to meet him when he gets in. I'm really quite excited about it, as I missed him the last time he was in St. Louis.

2. I only slept for an hour and a half last night. After a rather stilted beginning to my essay on Bleak House, I've finally got some momentum. Unfortunately, the essay has momentum, too, and is looking like it will be about 10 pages. There's no set page limit, and I could probably get away with seven, but then I'd have to stop in the middle of my argument. While I'm encouraged by the fact that I have a real argument and a lot to say about, I just wish it'd hurry up and write itself.

3. I'm probably only going to sleep for an hour and a half tonight. I have another essay to write for 5 PM on Monday, and I haven't quite finished all the reading for it. I have to finish A Woman of No Importance and either Salome or An Ideal Husband before I can write the essay. And while Salome is considerably shorter than An Ideal Husband, the latter would be a more appropriate fit for an essay about Wilde's manners comedies. I might have a panic attack before I finish this essay.

4. As much as I'm terrified of the essays, I'm having a fabulous time academically. I love what I'm reading; I'm engaged with the critical texts; and I have a lot to say about the books. Sure I get stressed about finish it all on time, but over all I love being able to spend most of my time reading. I haven't had this kind of opportunity to read enjoyable non-textbook things in years!

5. The reason I'm so royally fucked with my essays is that I decided to go out Friday night instead of finishing my Oscar Wilde reading. I'm so not regretting this. I had a fabulous time! Tara's friends from WashU/London were in town visiting, and we all went bar hopping. They're both rather fantastic people and very WashU about their existence. That sounds weird but on 1.5 hours of sleep, that's the best you're gonna get from me. (Just imagine what my essay looks like right now.) What I mean to say is that I felt a comfortable familiarity with their behavior even though I never met them. I got to catch up (and I mean really catch up) with my friend Jim, but fortunately only had a mild headache in the morning that went away after a glass of water. We ended up going to the Turf, the Hertford College bar, and the King's Arms. All were lovely, and due to my excessive drinking beforehand I only had to order one drink while out and otherwise mooched off of those around me.

6. Dell sucks. Seriously. I understand that there is an assload of bureaucratic nonsense surrounding shipping computer parts internationally and thus they will only ship to the US if one is ordering parts from the US. This is acceptable and fairly par for the course. However, on Friday, when my power cord was supposed to be delivered, they notify my parents that they won't ship it to them because they intend to ship it out of the country! This seems utterly ridiculous to me because after the cord is in my parents' possession, it ceases being Dell's responsibility! Fortunately, my Dad honed his authoritative jackass skills (which are really quite handy sometimes) in order to make them ship it to my parents regardless. They finally relented and the cord should be at my parents' house on Monday. Unfortunately, it means that I won't get it until God only knows when.

7. My head asplode. That is all.
