[Kukaku was in the lounge again, staring at her brother in the mirror, coming home right on time with his friends. She watched him let them all in, and then stay outside to stare at the sky as it got dark.
He looked awful. She was sure he'd lost weight and he didn't look like he'd slept. She remembered the last time he'd looked like that. It was when Rukia had brought Kaien's body home. But at least back then, she had been there. The two of them had been inseparable for a long time after that. But she knew he was too proud to seek that kind of comfort from his friends. So he was alone.
The war had to be long over by now. She'd been here 10 months. The fact that he was safe meant they had to have won. Aizen wouldn't have left Soul Society unscathed. And her home was close enough to the Seireitei that it would have been hit. She prayed that there weren't too many casualties.
She leaned against the wall and sighed. Even if it had been against her will, she'd abandoned her little brother. She felt awful.]
I'm sorry... I hope you can forgive me when I finally make it back. I'll... even let you hit me if it makes you feel better. I know I deserve it.
