Mr. George Yeo has been the scapegoat to bear the brunt of Singaporeans' displeasure. When Aljunied voters voted for the Workers' Party, not only did they lose their MP of the past 23 years, but Singapore as a whole has lost our Minister for Foreign Affairs. (Also, we've lost the first woman minister!) I know the result isn't unexpected, since his party only won by 6% last election, so losing by 9% this time isn't a huge stretch by any means.
I like Mr. Yeo. I've met him three times at various events, and he always took an interest in youths far beyond his position as an MP and Minister. The last time I met him was at last year's recycling-cum-fundraising initiative organised by the youth YMCA, where I wondered why he bothered to turn up for such events. It is hard to find such a wonderfully dedicated person.
I hope he'll be back in five years to contest again. Singapore will sorely miss him in this half a decade.

Edit: And there we have it, the result for the last seat of Potong Pasir SMC. The People's Action Party is once again the party in charge of Singapore, but now the opposition has a larger voice. A good result overall, methinks. And as for the huge number of void voters (especially the hotly contested areas: Marine Parade, Tampines, Ang Mo Kio) boo for for not thinking through your decision to sit on the fence. There's no such thing as both parties being equally bad together, there are surely things you like better or worse about any one side.
