this isnt progress
I'm starting to put my foot down at work.
Last week, I was approached by my boss who said "we have you on salary, and I notice the last few months as soon as the closing bell rings, you are out the door. You have in the past stayed for sometimes 12-13 hours in one day. I'd not want to ask directly, but you get what I am leading to...."
I looked at him with a smile and said "4 months ago, we had something called communication going on. I knew immediately what was going on and so I could anticipate when to keep my after hours schedule open. That has since stopped. If you approach me at the end of the day, chances are I have appointments set around the expectation that I will not be needed beyond a certain point."
Boss says "ok, you are very right about that" Me: great, I will clear my schedule for next week incase you need me just let me know ahead of time."
At that point, there was a huge research project that I was assigned. I was to start monday (today) but as I have been told, I have to be released from other duties prior to going down to my R&D department.
This morning I said "so, its 9am... I need to get this project moving it is going to be about a weeks worth of work."
"hold off on that for now" the boss says "I need you to fill in on the phones so my department can get caught up"
This is just speculation at this point, but here is what is going to happen at 3:30pm today
"hey Danny, are you sticking around?" my boss will ask...
to which I will bluntly reply "my day doesn't begin after an 8 and a half hour shift."
alot of you have seen how I go off on companies who jerk me around over the phone, I am no different with my work life.
end random midday rant.
