So like, part of my shopping spree since coming back has been with games. I've always been a horrible impulse purchaser when it comes to video games; anything I see with interesting or beautiful art direction, character design, music, innovation or story... I just gotta have it! This has lead to a few mistakes where a game just hasn't lived up to expectations, but mainly it just means I've got a ton of games I've hardly touched. I'll play everything for a few hours, then move on to the next one. Of course, FFXI is horrible in this regard, as it sucks all the time away that could be spent playing these other games!
I did however, finally pick up some mod chips to start cutting the costs of this unhealthy obsession of mine. A PS2 mod chip so I can start importing games and back ordering stuff from US or Asia that never came out in Australia, and a R4 card for my DS. I've gotta say the R4 is fantastic! I'll never have to buy another DS game again now ;3 I also found a bunch of nifty applications, like NDSMail, which let's you check email and even access MSN Messenger on the DS (wifi network accessibility willing) and DSOrganise which has a slew of basic PDA functions that I'm trying to figure out if it can help we manage my time better. It's a bit fiddly to use, and doesn't exactly operate the way I'd like it to, so w/e... it's still pretty funky. I was just hoping I could put in my uni timetable and stuff... but I can still use the calendar to input assignment dates, etc. The only bad thing about downloading NDS roms is no manuals! I have a couple of games where I just have no fkn clue what to do.. I can figure some out, but I guess I'll just have to gamefaq the rest w
ANYway. The really big thing that happened yesterday, is my new ISP finally kicked in, and my PlayAsia.com order arrived too! A friend and I will probably start ordering all our PS3 games through the site now, as the aussie dollar is so ridiculously strong, we can buy US games (no region controlling on bluray) that are $US40-60 for roughly $AU45-70, instead of the $100-110 they fetch at stores. I picked up Virtua Fighter 5 (as did Phil), because we thought it'd be fun to fight each other online... before realising the PS3 version didn't have online play T_T Owell, for $35 who gives a shit. He picked up NBA2K8, while I got Odin Sphere for PS2 (won't be out in Aus for another month or two), and for PSP, Patapon and Jeanne d'Arc. Both these PSP games were half the price I coulda got in Aus, and even though I don't actually OWN a PSP... yet... my friend Millsy does, so I just borrow theirs until I get my own npnpnp ^o^/
So yeah, getting wireless hooked up was great again, after the old router died while I was away. Hooked up the laptops again, got PS3 onto the network, as well as my xbox360. So what's the first thing I do after getting the consoles online? Download flOw for PS3 and RezHD for 360 ;3
flOw is the best use of the six-axis I've seen yet, and it really makes you feel like you're floating through the game. Your whole body jerks when you want to move quickly to attack or avoid, but otherwise you're just slowly rocking around and it feels really good. It's really pretty too, with the shimmering effects as the things you eat slowly shimmer down your body and join onto your skeleton somewhere.
Rez is a game I've wanted to play for a loooooooooong time. About four years ago I did a Game Studies course, and the lecturer and I got on fairly well. He raved about Rez a lot when discussing the issue of the feeling agency in games. Along with games like ICO, Shadow of the Colossus... all games that never sold well, and never in Australia, but at the same time were critically acclaimed for being fantastic games. So when I heard RezHD was out on Live Arcade, I had to have! And I'm so glad I paid the $15 or w/e for it.. it's amazing. I had a hard time explaining it to my friends when telling them why I wanted to get it, but a friend was over tonight and we played it and he agreed... it's fantastic. How the music and the game synchronise, how you float through the world, how the gameplay is so simple, yet engaging and challenging at the same time... wow! I can't wait to sit down again and actually unlock some more tracks/stages, because I was just on travelling mode before ;oa
Odin Sphere is pwn too, but it sucked that I had to pretty much burn a cracked copy of the game to play it with my modchip :/ Technically this means I could download ISOs for any PS2 games I want from now on, but I'm obsessive about owning boxes and artwork Dx I likes the pretties! It's gonna be tought deciding whether to play Grim Grimoire or Odin Sphere everytime I switch on the PS2 now ;3
Oh, and tonight we found out the bathroom upstairs is leaking down into our apartment... so we gotta get a plumber in and it'll probably mean we'll have to move out. That's gonna fucking suck, because we're in such a nice place, so close to everything and not paying the insane amounts that other people seem to be right now. I wonder if we'll get any compensation if that turns out to be the case... meh ... I really don't want to think about it, coz I have no clue about this sort of shit, and it's depressing... So instead I gonna think of patapons!
PON PON PATA PON!
So cute Dx
