I was overjoyed to discover today that I am this year's recipient of the Ryland-MacKinnon-MyNear Study Abroad/Travel Grant awarded by the Department of Modern and Classical LLC. What this means basically is that I've been awarded $1000 (the maximum reward) to spend at my discretion during my study this summer in Provence. This makes me a very very happy girl. I'll be able to eat! As well as go to places and countries I otherwise couldn't afford.
I opened the letter while peeing in Funkhauser and I really can't think of a better way to have found out. Especially after Dr. Desormeaux told me not to open it until I had sat down and had a drink.
This joy was followed by the even greater joy of sharing the news with my Ma, Pa, and Sis in turn who each told me with greatest sincerity that they were proud of me. Not much better than that really. Except for maybe what happened just 20 minutes ago when I approached the other recipient of the grant to introduce myself and congratulate her on her award only to discover that she hadn't found out that she won yet. I'd have to say the happiest part of my day was getting to watch her face light up upon hearing the good news and I gathered that it means a lot more to her financially than it does for me.
It's Spring, I've got Plans, I've got the Means, and I'm Satisfied.
