seems like something Garp would do...
I would like, when I have children, to take a picture of their rooms once a year beginning at their birth until they graduate from high school. Then, as they're preparing to move out for college, I'll compile said photographs into an album and present it to them as a going away surprise. I'll then encourage them, but not push them, to continue filling out their album with pictures of every room they live in from there on. Because wouldn't you, near your death, like to have pictures of every room you ever lived in and all their incarnations?
