A lot of things have happened, but what with the end of November and NaNoWriMo transitioning right into the madness of the holiday season, it's to be expected.
I had my first ultrasound on the 13th. Baby was a wiggly worm! Put on quite the show. I giggled. I cried. I had pretty much been in denial about my pregnancy the whole time, even after the blood test confirmed it. Me? Pregnant? I never get pregnant. Maybe the blood test is wrong. But there I was at the ultrasound, staring at the wiggly worm inside of me. They gave me pictures of the ultrasound. Baby looks like a Gummy Bear.
They confirmed that I was 9 weeks (actually 9w6d, so we were the day before 10 weeks).
That Saturday I got blood work done. They needed nine vials of blood. NINE! And my veins are usually like NOPE. And, indeed they were. Took forever for the guy to find one, let alone draw more than five drops.
Eventually he drew eight vials, and the ninth one was saved for after I drank the Gluco-Cola for the 1-hour glucose test. Thankfully, an hour later, he found my vein on the first try by poking very near the last hole.
I went to mum's in Matane for the Christmas Break. I hadn't told my mum about my pregnancy (though I did tell my dad over the phone... the original plan was go surprise mum, then drive over to dads and surprise him, but there was too much snow), so when she opened her gift, at first she didn't know what it was, and then she cried when she figured it out.
In a box, I had a onesie that said "Surprise!" along with baby booties, a bottle, a pacifier, and a picture of the ultrasound.
I had my second OB visit on the 4th. 13 weeks even. Due date is July 11th 2017.
I spent three hours at the OB (first hour was because they forgot about me). My blood pressure was high, but now as high as it normally is, which means that my low sodium diet is working somewhat! OB tried to listen for the heartbeat on his little doppler, but couldn't find it. It's not abnormal. I'm just a big girl. And then he told me that based on the glucose test, my blood sugar was at 195!!! Normal numbers should be below 140. So now he wants me to do a three-hour glucose test, as it's possible that I have Gestational Diabetes (meaning I'm only diabetic while pregnant).
Went for my 1st Trimester Screening on the 5th. Second ultrasound, and the baby was being a brat! Baby was sleeping, back to the camera. The nurse wiggled my belly to rouse him (I say "him" only because it's easier, not because baby is actually a boy. We don't know, yet). Nothing. She wiggled my belly again. Nothing. The third time she wiggled my belly, baby was like "leave me alone!" and threw his arm up. She wiggled my belly a few more times and baby eventually turned around, but did a 180 degree turn, and was now facing the camera. And for the next hour, continued doing 180 degree turns. They sent me to the bathroom and for walks in hopes that baby would only turn 90 degrees so that they can measure something at his neck. Finally, baby decided to be a brat and was face down. So my new ultrasound picture has him face down. *shakes head*
Also, we had been planning on going to Nassau in May. My first ever Cruise. Cruise was booked, with final payment due March 1st. But somebody told me that cruiselines do not allow pregnant women over 24 weeks on board. I will be going on 30 weeks by then. So I got a hold of my sister-in-law, who confirmed with the travel agent. So she had to cancel us. I asked Thad if he still wanted to go without me, because I would go without him in a heartbeat! He said no, because he didn't want to leave me pregnant and alone for a week, since his parents are also going on the cruise. Aww... <3 Guess Nassau can wait until after the baby is born.
And that's where we are, now.
Baby was the size of a kumquat (10 weeks), fig (11 weeks), lime, (12 weeks), and is now the length of a pea pod (13 weeks).
