It is not the first time I've had a dream of that basement. But the basement is a maze, and I can never get to the room I need.
So in my dream, I'm outside somewhere in a city, and the sky starts getting real dark, and there are tornados popping up everywhere. Mmkay. I've had that portion of the dream before. I know that I have enough time to get to my car and drive home, regardless of the tornado that plants itself right next to me.
So I get home. I stand in the room that is the complete middle of the house, as per Thad's instructions (both in the dream world and waking world... In the waking world, it would be my kitchen). When things start getting particularily nasty, I'm trying to find my cat so I can take her down into the basement with me. I find her, but she thinks I'm out to get her and that she's in trouble (again... nothing new in the waking world), and runs from me. I get pissed off, because I know that I have a very limited time before the tornado does its devastation, so I chase her around the couch, knowing that she'll dart for the bedroom, only to find the door shut, freeze, and slink down to the ground, defeated (she does this in the waking world, too). So I grab her and lead her to the basement. She goes down the stairs, and I shut the basement door behind me, and reach for my phone to call Thad, but my phone died. And then I start freaking out because I left Cadbury upstairs AND my phone charger, but know that I don't have enough time to get either one of them. So I try and find the lowest point in the basement that isn't around windows, as there strangely seemed to be a million windows in this basement. Then I remembered that there was a SECOND basement, one beneath the actual basement, so I headed towards that one.
I remembered that the second basement was a maze. And I remember Thad telling me that if ever there were tornados, to go to one room in particular, which lead to New York, except that i could never remember how to get there.
At this point, I'm not panicking anymore, because I'm underground x2, and can't hear whatever devastation is occuring upstairs. So I'm not running, I'm taking my time. I can't find the room, so I back track. Thad comes home and is just descending into the second basement as I'm coming up. He says that outside is fine, it's done. I tell him that I couldn't find the room to New York. He says "Oh. Here. Follow me." and leads the way.
While we're walking, I'm taking note of everything, from every turn, to every closed door we pass, to every picture and frame on the walls. We arrive to this one door, he opens it, and we step through, right into downtown New York, where it's nice and sunny and busy.
I guess a few days later, I had to go fetch something from the second basement for Thad. While I was down there, I tried to see if I could make it to the New York room on my own. So I start heading down the maze, and it's confusing, because the doors are normally shut, but this time, they were all open. So I'm peering into each room as I walk by, and take note of what I see. Eventually, I see a room with nothing but sand and beautiful golden pyramids on my right. I pass the room then stop, and back track. I stare out at Egypt in all it's golden beauty. And then I'm all like "... Wait. This isn't present Egypt. And it's not Ancient Egypt." So I'm wondering what futuristic year this Egypt was. Next to each door, there is a callendar with the year of whatever is past the door. I frantically search for the year on the callendar, except that I find none whatsoever. I did find a 2013 written somewhere, but knew that there was no way that the Egypt I was looking at was from 2013.
I then forget all about trying to find New York, and wonder what I am doing and how I am doing in the future. So I step out into Egypt's golden sands.
Next thing I know, I am in a house. There is a woman with short, curly brown hair. There is a girl, around 7 years old, in a long, pink night gown standing next to her, by a set of stairs. The woman is holding a little boy, seemingly 3 or 4 years old, under her arm. He is having a temper tantrum, flailing his arms and legs. Obviously, he doesn't want to go to bed. The woman turns around and looks at me.
I didn't want to freak her out as a stranger, so I said something, and added some witty saying (like dude, or eh? or whatever) that future me would say, so that she would at least think that I was future me's friend. She then tells me that the future me was currently working, and that she was putting the future me's kids to bed.
I figured that there was no way I was in 2013 if those were my kids. Unless I adopted.
And I woke up.
