I didn't go see Rockestra on Thursday. Mostly because my endometriosis was killing me. I was also tired. But I don't think I was ready to listen to Rockestra without Craig being there. Not so soon, anyway. Thad's parents did, however. They enjoyed set one, because Billy wasn't there, (I find it amusing how everybody seems to dislike Billy. Even Bruce from Shakedown) he was still coming back from vacationning in Florida. They also had a temporary bass player replacement. Next week, however, will be the official bass player replacement. I was confided to who it is, but am sworn to secrecy until Thursday. I did have a "whaaaa..." moment when I found out, though.
I went to see Blackberry Brandy's before-last show at Mallie's with Thad and his dad (mother-in-law was at Stamp Camp). It sucked, because Mallie's was PACKED. We unfortunately had to sit waaaay in the back. I could only see Brad's head out of the whole band. I didn't even get to talk to Heather and ask her to sing "Poker Face" for me. They did, however, play "White Rabbit" by Jefferson Airplane, which was my first time hearing them play it, and it made my night. Somewhat. We left after set one because our situation sucked so much. *sighs* Oh well.
Last night, after work, I went to see the Shakedown boys.
They played at Joy Manor in Westland for the SMR (Southern Michigan Riders) St. Patrick's Day party. I'd never been to Joy Manor. It was a $10 entry fee, but it was all-you-can-eat Corned Beef and Cabage. I didn't eat any (I hate Corned Beef!), so I paid $10 for a green SMR bracelet, and two hours worth of Shakedown. ^_^;;
So Lauri's table is full, so I decide to sit at the table behind her. There were three people already sitting there, but four free chairs. I ask to sit, and this one Rider tells me to go for it. So I do.
During the night, the Rider, who was buzzed from drinking, got progressively more and more drunk as time went by. I paid very little attention to him when I could help it. At one point he sits next to me. I still pay little attention to him. But then he leans on me. I shrug it off. I can handle it.
"What's your name?" he asks me.
"Raine." I reply, with a slight smile.
He reaches over his shoulder to shake my hand as he continues to lean on me. "Hi Raine, I'm Donnie."
I take his hand and shake it. But he doesn't let go. I still shrug it off. I can handle it.
"Hi Donnie, I'm Raine." I say again.
"Hi Raine, I'm Donnie." He also repeats.
At this point I'm thinking to myself ooookay. I try and gently pull my hand away, but he is still holding it.
"Hi Raine, can I see your boobs?" he says.
"Um, no." I blink, taken by surprise.
"Aww, come on."
"No."
"Come on!" he says, again.
"No." I say, and finally manage to pull my hand away, glancing to the band, hoping that he'll get the hint that I'm there to listen to the band.
He stops talking to me for a while, stops leaning on me, and talks to his friend. A little later on he looks at me and strikes up another conversation.
"So who'd you come here with?"
"Nobody." I reply.
"No, seriously. Who did you come here with?"
"Nobody." I repeat.
"Did you sneak in from the wedding next door?" he asks.
"No."
"Seriously."
"No, seriously, I came alone. I'm a big girl. I can do it." I say.
"Come on. I'm stupid, but I'm not that stupid. Who'd you come here with?"
At this point, I decide to humor him.
"The band." I reply.
"Okay. That's more believable. Which one?" he asks, glancing at the band.
"The drummer." I answer, knowing that Sammy would have my back if I needed help.
"You know the drummer?" he asks, shocked.
I nod. He goes back to talking to his friend. I go back to paying attention to the band, feeling more and more creeped out by this guy.
The boys were scheduled to play until 11:30PM, but, apparently, they weren't? So at 11:30PM, the boys are talking to the owner of the manager and the main SMR guy. I'm simply watching them.
"So you know the drummer?" the guy asks me, again.
"Yes."
"Prove it. Go up there and hug him." he dares.
"No, that's alright." I insist, not really wanting to bother the boys as they talk business.
"You don't know him." he says.
"I do." I insist.
"Do you like him?" he asks.
I'm sure he meant in a sexual way, but I humor him again while playing dumb and taking it as a "friendship-like" situation.
"Yes."
"Are you going to go home with him, tonight?"
"No."
At this point I gathered up my belongings and got up and rushed next to Sam, totally ready for him to walk me to my car. XD
At one point I had told Lauri that he was creeping me out. She replied that he was harmless. Okay. Harmless, maybe, but still creeping me out.
The boys had decided on playing some more, so I said a quick goodbye to Guitarist!Steve. I couldn't find Bassist!Steve or Bruce fast enough. Sam asked if I was going to stop by and see Rockestra. I said no, I had planned on meeting Johnna and Risa for some karaoke. I got my hug and my 'drive safe' from him and I snuck past the drunken Rider as he was distracted and talking to his friend.
We went to a new placed called Jake's Again, which is an interesting little hole-in-the-wall in Wayne, not too far away from Warriors 3 Comics. I was singing along while some chick was singing "You Were Meant For Me" by Jewel, and Risa and Johnna thought that I did an awesome job, and that I should probably sing it on my own next karaoke. Johnna said that Jewel is hard for her to sing. I don't sing much girl songs, but Jewel was never much of a problem for me. She doesn't sing too high or too low.
It dawned on me that I have two weekends left before my doumbek performance in Toledo. Urg. Getting nervous. I wish Sam could come with us like he wanted to, but they have a gig that weekend. Boo-urns.
Speaking of Sam, I found the perfect t-shirt for him. It says "Save A Drum Bang A Drummer" XD It's perfect because he's such a dirty old man. And a drummer. Muahahaha!
And because I *heart* Sam so bad, they have a gig on St. Patrick's Day at McCaffery's in Lincoln Park, and I will totally be there. <3
