I'm getting a camera this afternoon! I found a really good deal on a Canon PowerShot S400. It's not quite as tiny as the SD300 (the camera I *really* want), but it's waaay cheaper, and except for the size it's almost the same.
It's been years and years since I've had a camera that I actually liked using. Ever since switching to digital (something that happened to me as a consequence of the nakedraver thing), I've had a lot of trouble pulling out my old Minolta. I just can't handle the thought of processing (and then scanning) slides, unless there's some specific reason I want to use film. Then, it got stolen out of the truck a couple months ago. I still have the X-7a body, but I don't have a 50mm lens anymore, which makes it basically useless. Also, I always had trouble toting around a full-size SLR, so I'd leave it at home a lot and miss a lot of pictures.
This camera is quite small, so I can take it everywhere. I've used its newer cousin, the SD300, and it's much less balky and slow than the Olympus we had for NR. The AF is actually quite decent, and it has a focus lock(!). It comes with an extra battery and a half-gig CF card.
I'm really looking forward to starting to see the world like a photographer again. I always really enjoyed looking at the world as a big puzzle full of photographs. It's been a long time. I'm so out of practice, I think I miss a lot of things now. I wonder how long it'll take me to get it back...
