Hypothetical situation:
you're originally from Buffalo, New York.
You go on a job hunt and are offered the following 2 scenarios:
1) Charlotte NC area. Small but growing firm. Starting Salary - 35,000 fairly typical benefits offered in writing already. holidays, vacation, etc. Health insurance coverage begins after 3 mos, and verbally offered to reimburse for coverage during those 3 months of other insurance from school doesn't cover summer. already found some decent apartments in the $600-$800 range outside the city. nice 2 bedroom ones in the downtown area and more froofy areas around the city i've seen for anywhere from 1300-2000..
2) White Plains, NY area. also a small firm. Starting salary offered - 35,000. Followed up with a "What would it take to make you come here?" when told of other offer in cheaper area at same price. fairly similar benefits offered verbally during interview, but health insurance wouldn't start for 6 months. Haven't done hardly any looking for a place to live, but complexes listed on apartmentguide.com (there's not many) run from 1400 for 1 bedroom (possibly find something cheaper with a more extensive search, but....) first question: 1) how much would it take to make you come here. knowing alot of apts down here require income to be 3x the rent, that'd be looking around at least 43,000 to even come close, i think. 45 probably safer.. but would that be comfortable, who knows.
Considerations:
1) Cost of living, obviously.
2) Weather.
3) Charlotte vs NYC
4) and of course, there's always Erik and what of the future there?
What on earth to do?!
