Anne's mom had a free month-long pass to Netflix, so we reserved the whole Utena series and we're watching it from the beginning on. This is awesome, because I've never seen the whole series in order, and there are apparently handfuls of scattered episodes that I haven't seen that I didn't know about. Also, in the Black Rose arc (which is about where we are right now,) the translation explains a lot more things than the fan-translation I'd seen, and suddenly the series makes FIVE HUNDRED TIMES more sense.
But it will always seem misty and confusing to me, in a really cool way, because I went for a long time not understanding things, and I became somehow attached to the weird mental images that I had when I'd only seen about five episodes from the middle and it all seemed like a nifty mystery. Somehow, I enjoyed the series more when I didn't understand it-- I enjoyed it in a particular way, as this fascinating and compelling jumble of broken plotlines that seemed to hold immense significance, complete with heavy music and lots of emotion, which you could think of as meaning anything that interested you. I want to keep on thinking of the series the way it was in my mind then, although it is nice to actually understand all the scheming and stuff.
Also, Anne made the best verbal slip EVER. She called Juri "Yuri." XP
