Hmm. I think you're right about the age of exposure there. Kids can be imprinted very easily, and they can memorize each and every part of something they come to care about, regardless if it was smart or dumb or not. The more you're exposed to, the more likely you become to pass judgement on the new thing by what you remember from the old thing. It doesn't matter in the end if you end up liking the new thing just as much, though - it's your reaction that's different ( ... )

but FF4 was there, and I learned from it like it was a bible story.

I went to church and zoned out and thought about FF4 instead. XP

That shouldn't bring me as much joy as it does. XDDD I just snuck out and ran around in the bathroom halls with my little sister until it was time to leave. X3

This reminds me a LOT of what Baco was talking about earlier, about heroes and how we percive them as idols.

...Uhm, yeah, I don't really have anything else to say, other than that's really really interesting and it made me think of Baco's problem.

Yeah, it does. Hm... I think I got the idea from the stuff I said in the "Holy shit I'm turning 23" thread, but it was around the same time as I saw Baco's post, so I bet the two came together, fused, and finally made some sense out of the problem for me.

Yeah, I think that may be right. When you start questioning God, you really are doing a similar thing to those people as canonmongers do to you when they argue for the Achilles thing. It makes the faithful person uncomfortable, because it's bringing harsh and faith-less discourse into an area that they didn't really want to bring it.

...was that really already a couple years ago? Wow.

I think it also ties in to why I get upset when someone I respect questions or rags on Daniel--or, for that matter, why Anne Rice gets so uppity about Lestat. Same kind of feeling, I think.

It's nice to see someone else who's just as exhasperated with people who use tiny little details and make something negative out of it instead of something positive. >_> Don't even get me started on Anne Rice. If you've released something to the public and they've come to love it, changing it because you as the author has turned over a new leaf makes it look cheap. At the same time, I've had similar experiences writing for a character that everyone hated, and it turned into a scenario in which I found myself having to defend him and getting upset about it outside of the bounds of discussion of that character. Sorry if that was vague - I'm all hopped up on anti-sniffle drugs.
