Eric and I did a date night yesterday. He proposed a train trip downtown to the Seattle Art Museum.

The train was very nice. This was the first time I had ridden the "Link Light Rail" and the experience was a good one. The cost for both of us was less than parking downtown and the stress = none!

There was no research done before hand, so we just went to see what we could see at SAM. We were in luck since the Michelangelo exhibit was still there (it ends Jan 31). I really enjoyed seeing the preliminary sketches for works such as the Sistine Chapel and then a photo of the finished work right next to the sketch. Of course, you expect awesome when you go to see the work of Michelangelo!

A lovely surprise was the other special exhibit right next to the Michelangelo works. They had the work of Alexander Calder, an American artist. If you and/or your children ever had a mobile to look at it was because of him. The term "mobile" was coined to describe his work back in the 1930s or 40s. It was a great thrill to learn about an artist I had no knowledge of before.

We did walk the entire museum and I left on a visual overload!

Since it was getting late (almost 7pm) and we had not had dinner, food was a necessity! The solution was to walk up to the Night Kitchen (216 Stewart St) and enjoy a wonderful dinner. If you have not visited yet, give it a try! The food and service was both excellent. Don't forget to go all the way to the back of the space and find the lounge, populated by couches, soft chairs, books and games!
