Life on the Farm

Friday we drove up to Lynden to visit Eric's cousin, Sheila on her farm. Eric's parents also met us up there. We had a great time! Friday night was a dinner with several other relatives that live up in the area. The dinner featured: crabs caught the day before, corn picked a couple hours earlier, squash fresh from the garden, coleslaw made with cabbage and carrots from the garden, pie made from apples fron the farm and black cod caught and smoked by one of the cousins. Among the "store bought" items, were a turkey smoked on a BBQ, good wine and cheese. Everyone literally rolled away from the table, the meal exemplified a harvest feast.

Saturday we all got up and had a good farm breakfast that included, home made applesauce, apple cider, pears, plum preserves (all from trees on the farm), eggs fresh from the chickens, bacon and Eric's famous pancakes.

Then we were off to pick apples and make cider. Roughly 2 hours of work yielded 5 gallons of wonderful apple cider. Sheila decided that we also needed fresh grape juice, so we picked some grapes and made up a gallon of grape juice. Eric has epic mead plans for all that fresh juice!

We also made a stop in to visit my aunt and uncle who live in Bellingham. It was fun catching up and we ended the visit at a wonderful restaurant down on Bellingham Bay with an incredible view.

We will be back up there often!
