-----------------
Ooh, a callout TTT, I love a good callout topic! :P Lemme just real quick scan through the ~415 unread titles in the book catalog... (I will defend that half of those are children's books! but yeah it's still a lot)
(let's also just not even look at those bags from Half Price Books, where having forgotten all about this already-scheduled mindfulness-themed post, I very much took advantage of their 20% off holiday sale this past weekend.)
(cover collage later, only if i have time)
Now that I've picked my ten: some of these have been in my possession for longer than others, but because so many of my buys are opportunistic, I tried to focus on picking the ones that I was excited enough about to specifically order online and/or ones that I am genuinely surprised I didn't read immediately upon finding by chance because I'd been looking out for a copy for so long.
Midnight Moon - Dorothy Lyons
After finding out this existed in 2012 (second in a quartet of which I'd only read the third), and shortly thereafter finding out I couldn't get it through Interlibrary Loan, I stalked it online until a cheaper-than-usual copy in decent condition turned up for $18, and I immediately bought it. By that point it had been years since reading the first book, so I wanted to reread it and...haven't yet. It's been a good 6 years.
2.
Meet Me At the Summit - Mandi Lynn Belle
After Camper Girl last year, I leafed through a coffee table book about van life and immediately needed another novel about it. A couple days of research led me here -- the book has a direct sequel as well a 3rd/companion book -- and it sounded PERFECT. But it was self-published, i.e. expensive, so I waited a full month for a promised sale to buy direct from the author and then at least a week for shipping. By that point, summer was about over so I decided to save it. We'll see what happens this year, lol.
3.
Peacock Summer - Hannah Richell
I was thrilled to find this at a garage sale after years of it being on my TBR! Timing couldn't have been more perfect! But that was last June and I still haven't read it.
4.
Girls of July - Alex Flinn
I was even more excited when I found a secondhand copy of this at a library sale, because I'd been wanting to read it during the summer for so long, and yet...it's been 2 or 3 years.
5.
Postcards From Summer - Cynthia Platt
I'm STILL embarrassed that I was like "I will pay over ten dollars because I NEED a physical copy in order to finish reading it RIGHT NOW!" and then was too overwhelmed w/ joy to actually do that. It has been fully a year.
6.
Rarity Mountain - Sara L. Foust
Another one I bought because I was struck by an immediate reading need, only by the time it arrived in the mail I was no longer in the mood (it has been over 2 years).
7.
Roc: A Dog's Eye View of War - Edmund Vale
I requested this from an antiquarian bookstore for my birthday in...2017? 2018? because I love old dog books and this was in perfect shape and a bit scarce. I was very excited to support the store, but I've just never quiiiite been in the mood to actualy start it. Set during WWI.
8.
Eliza's Journal - Caelyn A.B. Williams
In 2022 I had a sudden surge of interest in unusually-formatted novels, esp. those with drawings/mixed media, and when I couldn't get this via I.L.L. or read it on OpenLibrary I bought a copy to find out what it was about. Once it arrived, I realized there was an unexpected element of sci-fi/fantasy/otherworldliness/I dunno exactly what but it's not purebred realistic contemporary, and I decided I wasn't quite ready to explore it yet.
9.
The Geography of Lost Things - Jessica Brody
I think this might actually be a record for how much and long I've been excited for a book I own without reading it (found it at Savers within a year of its 2018 release!!), and yet...I remain too nervously excited to take the plunge on this stunning cover.
10.
Tin Can Tucker - Lynn Hall
Can You Believe there's a Lynn Hall book I ordered and still haven't read?? I think I've had it for 5-6 years at this point. I want to make sure I read it at the Exactly Perfect Time, I guess.
Your Turn: have you read any of these? any on your TBR? if you didn't post a list on topic this week, at least throw me a single title you've had the longest and/or are embarrassed you haven't read yet.
