We left on SUNDAY, March 16 around 5:45am and arrived at the timeshare in Williamsburg at 5:45pm. We didn't once stop at a fast food restaraunt or any eating place for that matter. I had packed a cooler with lunch meat sandwiches and snacks and milk and we would stop at rest areas and let the kids run an we'd eat there and use those restrooms. This saved so much time and money, not to mention we weren't eating yucky, greasy food all day! When we got there, we unpacked the van, let the kids run while we made out a weekly list of activities and meal plan. We headed off to play putt putt on the grounds of where we were staying, and the kids played on the playground for a while. Then we piled back into the van and went in search of dinner (we were tired of sandwiches!). We ate at a mexican rest which wasn't that great but hey, the kids liked their chicken fingers with honey :) Then home and off to bed.
MONDAY morning dad went to Ukrops to get groceries (I love that place, but I didn't get to go all week!). When he got back we packed a cooler with more sandwiches and headed to historic Williamsburg. My pass was still good from last year (otherwise it's $60) and kids 5 and under are free so my kids were all 5 and under :) Then we hopped on the bus to transport us into W and the kids loved riding the bus! We got off at the ammo storage area (what's that called??) and looked around for awhile, then went across the street to hear a period man and woman speak of what was going on in town just before the revolution. My kids lasted about 2 minutes inside the building and so I headed outside with all but Wesley. The kids loved the fact that all over the ground were oyster shells for walking paths. They all sat and collected shells for about 45 minutes. Then we went to a shop and dad bought the boys each a gun and the girls each a doll. Well Alli insisted upon having 2 dolls, and she kept running back to the shop when we weren't looking, and at one point was actually about 1000 feet away from me before I noticed (b/c I was helping each child take a turn petting a horse). So we decided to call it a day and hop back on the bus and head home.
TUESDAY we went to Virginia Beach since we had watched the weather report for the week and had decided this would be one of the nicest days temp-wise. So we get there and it was FREEZING because of the wind, and of course the wind was coming in off of the cold ocean... BRRR. We stayed for over an hour then called it quits. The kids found lots of neat shells, enjoyed playing in the sand for a while, and saw TONS of shark's eggs (witches purses).
(pics to come, I used my parents camera this day!)
WEDNESDAY we had a planned rest day. We took the kids to this cool park that was only a 3 minute drive from where we were staying. This place was huge and you literally could stay all day and not run out of fun things to play on and to do. After that we took a drive and stopped at a beach along-side the river. The kids had a blast finding more shells and splashing in the water. Elli even wrote her name in the sand with a stick (she writes from right to left and mirrored).
