Following the vigil, there will be a performance in Smith Memorial Center Ballroom 355 by Scott Turner Schofield, a transgender man who creates theater about gender and sexuality in the Deep South.  Special guests include Reid Vanderburg, Laura Calvo, Jenn Burleton.

Please join the Human Rights Campaign in conjunction with Portland State University to commemorate the Transgender Day of Remembrance (TDOR), which was first observed on November 28, 1999 in San Francisco in honor of Rita Hester, a transgender woman whose 1998 murder is still unsolved. Since then, TDOR observances have been held in dozens of cities all over the world. TDOR's goals are:

* To raise public awareness of hate crimes against transgender people,
* To mourn for and honor the lives of those who have been lost to anti-transgender violence,
* To express respect and love for the transgender community in the face of indifference and hatred,
* To give allies the opportunity to stand in solidarity with the transgender comunity.
