I'M BACK!!!! Lost the blogging bug for awhile & I've been so extremely tired that all I want to do every day is sleep. (quick update of my past 13 weeks: I moved to Canberra for placements, then back to Sydney for 5 crazy weeks of intensive uni, and I'm now on another placement in Sydney) It is rapidly dawning upon me how little time I have left in Sydney and how many memories I still need to write down before they all disappear on me, so here's me trying again.

After frolicking about with alpacas (see previous post), we drove for ~ 2 hours to the second biggest town in Tasmania (and also the 2nd settled city in Australia), Launceston.

The next morning, we started our adventure with a river cruise down the Tamar river!

Le Momster!

This is the Cataract Gorge! Extremely beautiful (pity about the gloomy weather, though.)

However, beautiful as it was, I have to admit that I spent most of the time like this. I actually snoozed through about 1 hour of the 2 hour cruise. D:
To my defense, it was a really slow cruise, and we did things like wine & cheese tasting. It was clearly meant for old people, and I only booked this because I thought my parents would love it (which they did, thankfully).

After the cruise, we went for STRAWBERRY PICKING!!! The most excited person was my dad, because he looooves strawberries.

My Contended Dad hehe ♥

Post strawbie-picking snack! Strawberry waffles & cream. It was so good that we ordered another plate. Hahaha.

It started raining while we were picking strawberries and so we terminated the picking early. We didn't really have anything else planned for the day, and we had about 2 hours to kill before it hit 5 pm (and the whole town goes to sleep), so we randomly googled for things to do to pass the time!

Our first stop was 20 minutes away: an old lighthouse.

Not Entirely Impressed because this lighthouse was sorta just... sitting by the side of the road in the middle of a housing estate.

After awhile we realized that this was just the light station.

This was the light house. Also Not Entirely Impressed, but at least this was by the water & probably has potential to look beautiful when it isn't gloomy and rainy.

Rain & wind swept but happy.

However, when I went to read up online, I realized that this wasn't the lighthouse either. This is. Oops. I obviously had led them to the wrong place entirely.

Well, I guess there are some things my parents don't need to know about.

After this we went to the Old Umbrella Shop. I don't really know why this is one of Launceston's tourist attractions because frankly, it is just an umbrella shop. My cutie parents are more interesting to look at....

The next morning, my parents very nicely let me go on a Launceston city walking tour! I said "nice" because I know that my parents are getting old & we rented a car because I didn't want them to walk around too much. Also my dad was suffering from an ankle sprain at that time (which turned out to be arthritis of the ankle), so they couldn't walk too much. :( I should mention that I shot myself in the foot regarding this sentence a couple of days later when I sent my parents to the Walking Holiday of Doom. More on that next time.

The art gallery/ wooden furniture store that we started the tour at, one of the owners, Robyn, was the tour guide.

We were the only people on the tour which I thought was a pity because the tour was super interesting!!! I love walking tours because we get to walk about and see things that normally would never catch our eye.

For example, you'd never think to look at how some of these bricks were laid with a semi-circle pattern, would you?

Or that this bar is secretly a boat. The hull of this boat is under ground. /mindblown

The focus of this picture is actually... the curb. Much of Launceston was constructed by convicts & the wobbly curbs were also built by them hundreds of years ago. :)

A bar/ hotel where wives of sailors used to wait at (as this is near the docks) to receive their husbands :)

I had too much fun at the tour!! Lots of old architecture & beautiful buildings, together with stories of the past. Sigh!!! Looking back at these photos makes me want to relive this all over again :)

holidays, travels
