kids always manage to amaze me
I felt the need to post this, with how sad i have been feeling. My nephew, William, who really isnt one of my favorite kids, as you all know, amazed me yesterday at his birthday party. William has two cousins in wheelchairs, Gwen and Noah. Gwen is severely disabled, developmentally disabled, unable to speak, or even control her hand movements. Noah though, is a normal little boy, intelligent and happy (so is Gwen) and able to communicate and understand everything around him. William has just always known these two little kids, so he thinks of it as just a normal thing for them. He doesnt think twice about it and he loves them both fiercely. I had never met Noah before the party but my sister said he is Williams best friend.
Well one of Williams friends said something about not liking Noah, for no good reason, and I didnt hear all of it. But my nephew turned to look at him and said "Well, I DO like him. Hes my cousin." i was very pleased to hear him so adamantly defend him. And just amazed by all of his behavior. He went out of his way to include Noah at the whole party, played with him, sat with him, and made us make room for Noah to sit next to him at the table. By the end of the party all of the kids were a little more accepting of Noah, including him and talking to him instead of talking about him.
I wish more kids were like William in that aspect. For him its just normal, he's always been around handicapped kids. I wish more kids got to have that blessing. Because thats what it is. William has an understanding most six year olds dont, only because of exposure. And because a good heart too.
