Summary: For
kink meme. Shigeaki Kato, a supposed angelic lawyer, witnessed a car accident involving a mysterious man named Yamashita Tomohisa. He doesn't know anything about him but yet he's drawn to him. With his trusted friend, Keiichiro Koyama, he finds out more about this mysterious man's past and learns a bit about himself. What does this Yamashita Tomohisa have anything to do with him? Whose accident was it really?
Author's Notes: Eh, I didn't mean to make Ryo that dramatic. Hopefully it doesn't take away from the story! And hopefully he's still in character. That's what I'm worried about mostly. Anyway, on to the chapter!

The Argument
“Where were you? Why didn’t you answer any of my calls?” asked his old schoolmate. “This idiot woke up on day three after you decided to ignore me. We’ve had to continuously sedate him, round the clock, twenty-four seven. You want to know why, Kato?”
Shige didn’t open his mouth. He felt like he was being scolded like a child caught telling a lie or stealing a cookie.
“All this time, he asked for you. Amazing. He might’ve been more conscious than we’d originally hoped for - but the bastard asked for you. Of course, he still went on and on about his stupid picture but one of the nurses brought to me after you left it on the floor. Like it was trash. Believe me, when Yamashita heard that, which I’d certainly like to know why he’s so stubborn in not sleeping, he got pissed off. He wanted to wring your neck. Or at least that’s the impression I got when he grabbed me!”
He pushed down his collar to reveal a deep bruise on his neck.
“You’re so lucky, Kato,” he continued to talk, “that I’m not going to bring assault charges to him. Besides, I bet even if I had eyewitnesses, photographs of my neck wound, and even a straight confession from him, you would’ve cleaned me out anyway. So I guess there’s really no point, huh?”
Shige felt guilty.
“I’m sorry,” Shige finally said.
The irate doctor narrowed his eyes.
“Like hell you are.” He turned to the now quiet figure on the bed behind him. “I don’t know what you’ve been getting yourself involved with these days, Kato, but it’s a little unfair to me that you’re taking that high school incident out on me now. That wasn’t my fault and you know it.”
Shige was surprised; he didn’t think Ryo would remember that incident.
“It wasn’t my fault either,” the lawyer said.
“I still believe you, even though I kind of want to kill you right now.”
Somehow it felt like a large weight left his shoulders, even though the doctor just threatened him. Shige nodded. “So what can I do to make it up to you?”
Finally the doctor let out a sigh; it seemed he tried to calm himself down. “Sit down here,” Ryo motioned Shige to sit down on a chair which was near Tomohisa.
“Believe it or not, I’m a little worried about Tomohisa though, not just medically. He doesn’t have any medical history with us or with any other hospitals in the area. I asked my detective friend to look him up for any warrants and it seems that he’s in the clear. I’ve also contacted my psychiatrist friend to come up after he’s calmed down and stop attacking me. I trust your judgment, Kato. You must know this man somehow, someway, for you to bring him here and to pay for his bills? He must be pretty special.”
Shige shook his head. “It’s not that way, Ryo!”
“I’m not insinuating anything. I’m just making a statement. Look. Just stop ignoring my calls and visit him. Not just whenever you feel like it, but everyday. He needs someone. I wish I could be here every day but I can’t. I have other patients to tend to.”
Shige let out another sigh. “Why are you telling me this? Why the sudden change of heart?”
The doctor’s face returned to the irate glare he had earlier.
“Because, unlike me, Kato, you’re kind. And this man needs all the kindness in the world."
